Excuse me while I wax lyrical about The Land of Lost Things, I get such a kick out of wandering into the mind-scape of John Connolly, it is the most fantastical place in which to dwell awhile. You don’t need to have read the Book of Lost Things (published back in 2007) in order to enjoy this sequel, as it sits perfectly as a standalone, though I recommend you do! Ceres reads fairy stories to her eight-year-old daughter who is in a coma, as she holds Phoebe’s hand and explores her own memories, folklore and the fantastical await. As with all good fairy tales, you’ll discover unnerving darkness, so make sure you are sitting comfortably before you begin. I absolutely adored the characters I met along the way, they mattered, they became loved. Expect emotions to run amok, yet while I walked on the edge of fear, hope always kept me company. The ending sent shivers of goosebumps racing from the page up my arms, it felt beautifully perfect. Once I had finished, I just wanted to go back to the beginning and start again. This LoveReading Star Book and Liz Pick of the Month is recommended as a must-read. Exploring love, grief, sacrifice, and hope The Land of Lost Things is a gorgeously eerie and enthralling novel.

About
The Land of Lost Things Synopsis
Twice upon a time - for that is how some stories should continue . . .
Phoebe, an eight-year-old girl, lies comatose following a car accident. She is a body without a spirit, a stolen child. Ceres, her mother, can only sit by her bedside and read aloud to Phoebe the fairy stories she loves in the hope they might summon her back to this world.
But it is hard to keep faith, so very hard.
Now an old house on the hospital grounds, a property connected to a book written by a vanished author, is calling to Ceres. Something wants her to enter, and to journey - to a land coloured by the memories of Ceres's childhood, and the folklore beloved of her father, to a land of witches and dryads, giants and mandrakes; to a land where old enemies are watching, and waiting.
To the Land of Lost Things.
For anyone who loved THE BOOK OF LOST THINGS and for all readers who enjoy dark, beautifully written fables that explore the heart of the human condition: love, loyalty and sacrifice.
