I've always been a sucker for bibliomysteries, stories involving books, lost, real or apocryphal and Cogman's science fiction baroque fantasy ticks all my buttons. Irene is an undercover spy for the mysterious and wonderful Library, harvesting fiction from different realities as part of her job. Alongside her enigmatic assistant Kai she is assigned to find a book in another version of London and this sets her on a frantic path of wild and fantastic adventures which never relent, unpeeling layers and layers of conspiracies within conspiracies. A colourful world (or actually series of worlds), endearing characters, supernatural navigation with not a hint of fey, and a plethora of guilty pleasures make this splendid entertainment of the first degree.

Genevieve Cogman started on Tolkien and Sherlock Holmes at an early age, and has never looked back. But on a perhaps more prosaic note, she has an MSC in Statistics with Medical Applications and has wielded this in an assortment of jobs: clinical coder, data analyst and classifications specialist. Although The Invisible Library is her debut novel, she has also previously worked as a freelance roleplaying game writer.
