About

Paul and Phoebe Synopsis

In his Letter to the Romans, St Paul includes an introduction for a woman called Phoebe, a deacon of the church at Corinth, where he had spent time in around AD 50. In Paul and Phoebe, Elizabeth Rees explores the relationship between the two, the communities they knew, and other early Christian sites in the Peloponnese, where the focus has previously been on the magnificent pre-Christian heritage of the region, with its sculptures and temples. However, there is often a closer relationship between the two than might be though, as the author shows in this study of the early Christian communities of Greece and some of the personalities that inhabited it.
