LoveReading Says

Dedicated to the members of the Too Late Facebook group this book has a fascinating backstory. Described by Hoover as “morbid and vulgar” and unlike her other books, it started life as her project from 2012 when she had writer’s block. Adding chapters over time with readers contributing as she was writing, it took on a life of its own.

Never officially published you may have read it on Amazon Kindle where it was originally released for free. But it’s had some tweaks for its proper publishing debut.

This is the story of Sloan and Asa and Carter. With each chapter flitting between Asa, Carter and Sloan we read the innermost thoughts of each character. The good, the bad, and the downright ugly.

Asa Jackson is the definitive bad boy and Sloan has fallen for his tricks, been seduced by his lies ever since she fell for him and he took her in after being evicted two years ago.

Carter is the good guy, the cop working under cover to bust the largest campus drug ring in collegiate history. And he meets his match in Asa.

Having never before felt valued or cared for, Sloan mistakes Asa’s control for care. Until she wakes up that is, develops a crush and realises that this is how it should be. This is how guys should make girls feel. She realises what it is to be loved in the right way.

The content isn’t  for the faint-hearted with themes of domestic violence, rape, emotional and physical abuse, childhood trauma and neglect, drug abuse/addiction and drug dealing.

Too Late has got to be one of Hoover’s grittiest reads. It’s filled with suspense. It’s romance. It’s spicy. It’s horrific. She is trapped. Trapped through terror and through financial reliance.  It’s an absolute page-turner. And you can’t help but hope and pray that Sloan gets her miracle and her happy ever after.
