"I think that this would be a good read for fans of fantasy and coming of age books."
We land in the village of March and its outskirts where Fran lives with his mother, shunned and under suspicion by half the residents. A betrothal leads to an accident and the consequent confusion drags the village and its residents into conflict. All this is compounded by the presence of magic, the fear of witches and dragons lurking in the shadows of the forest. Shattered Truce is an interesting fantasy story that sees a rather mundane storyline elevated, and made more difficult to navigate, through the introduction of magic and past resentments. I liked the pacing of the book. I felt that I had plenty of time at the beginning to settle into March and get to know Fran and his mother and understand some of the dynamic between them and the other characters. Once the action kicks into full gear we are swept along in multiple perspectives and this relatively minor incident leads to greater and greater consequences and fear and prejudice takes hold. The book hints at further world expansion as we follow Fran’s journey but the book is also well rounded enough to read as a standalone. I think that this would be a good read for fans of fantasy and coming of age books.

I really enjoyed this first book in the series. Tension builds at a good pace to the end.
Annerin and her son, Fran, live close to March. They chose to isolate themselves from the villagers. Elsa and Maya are frequent visitors as are some of the other lads of Fran's age. Things take a nasty turn when Lukas is killed in the village square by Galos, also a friend to Annerin's family. Annerin leaves to find Arete, believed to be a witch, and Fran follows. Will March settle down now they are gone or will loyalties split it apart? I really enjoyed this first book in the series. Tension builds at a good pace to the end. It's well written and a good start.... Read Full Review
