August 2014 Book of the Month.
A tale of an unlikely friendship and hard lessons well learned. Amy, bruised by a failed relationship, answers an advertisement in The Lady magazine and becomes companion to a quiet, gently aristocratic old lady, Georgina Hamilton. They go to New York and in Pygmalion style Georgia introduces Amy to a life of glamour. But there is a sadness to Georgia’s life. Amy takes this lovely lady to meet her ‘salt-of-the-earth’ family and each learns different values from the other. This is a lovely tale fluctuating from 1950s to the present day in London and America, outlining the rewards for two people prepared to learn from the other’s life. Amy manages to bring peace and understanding and a measure of forgiveness to the various characters and in so doing finds a different future for herself than the reader may have envisaged. A wonderful read.
A 'Piece of Passion' from the publisher...
'As soon as we read The Proposal, we knew Tasmina had written something exceptional. Her trademark storytelling magic is there, of course, but The Proposal has a new, gentle and romantic tone that is endlessly and effortlessly charming and this moving tale of two women coming together to unlock a love story long buried in the past will leave you delicately brushing away a tear. The elegant, tender romance at the heart of this novel lingers long after you’ve finished reading.' - Mari Evans, Publishing Director, Headline
