Rich and compelling it is December 1154, the coronation of Henry II and Eleanor opens the second part of this detailed, magnificent trilogy of the life of Eleanor of Aquitaine which began with The Summer Queen. You can read this alone but it would be so much better if you read the earlier one first. This runs from 1154 to 1174 through many births, deaths and power struggles, finishing with Henry imprisoning the poor woman. The author has written much on the medieval period and this trilogy is certainly amongst the best of her work. ~ Sarah Broadhurst
