Whether the story told here of an incredible friendship borne out from the most unlikely of circumstances is true or not, as the media would have you believe it’s not, this is an extraordinary piece of writing. You’ll hit every form of emotion whilst reading it and find it totally unputdownable. Frey is a brilliant writer.
While in rehab, James Frey finds a father figure in a shady mafia boss called Leonard. When Leonard returns to his dubious, prosperous life in the criminal underworld of Las Vegas, he promises James his support on the outside.
