A great American thriller debut. Janie Jenkins is released from prison on a technicality. Ten years earlier she killed her mother and is now determined to unravel the mystery of her last words. The world's media is inevitably on her trail as she makes a byline for a small town where the secret might reside, but Janie has the looks, the guile and the connections. A dizzy road movie of a book that paradoxically evokes The Devil Wears Prada alongside Gone Girl, this is both excruciatingly funny and gripping, a rare combination. Fast-paced, atmospheric and with a sassy under suspicion heroine who kicks ass with rapier wit, this is a wildly entertaining romp full of surprises and striking characters. A veritable hoot. ~ Maxim Jakubowski
After ten years in prison Jane Jenkins, suffering from amnesia, decides to find out if she really did murder her mother of which she was accused. Returning to her roots under a new name, Rebecca Parker, she discovers some ugly truths. She comes from a prominent, wealthy, socialite family and yet her mother came from a poor family. The secrets behind all this are nicely revealed but it’s the final twist that really makes you sit up here! Written in an easy, flowing style, it is a quick read.
