One of the greatest German lyric poets, Mörike is, according to some critics equal to Goethe as a lyricist. This book was the first attempt to analyse Mörike’s highly suggestive drawings, some of which are reproduced in the book. The contents of poems are summarized, so no prior knowledge of German is assumed, and a large number of poems are quoted in full.
