"A wonderfully entertaining and witty exploration of murder and mayhem among the rich and privileged."
What a hoot this is, pure reading entertainment awaits your pleasure. Old School Ties forms part of the Tode Hall series, and although I’ve read others I feel you could easily read this as a standalone if you’ve not yet partaken. Author Daisy Waugh slides wit and a beautiful lightness of touch into dastardly deeds with aplomb. While there is a somewhat jolly skate along the surface of the more unpleasant side of life, it is cleverly balanced. There are plenty of characters to get to know, and I found myself smirking at their affectations and peculiarities. The excursion to the outskirts of Rome was wonderful, and I loved the inclusion of a certain long-dead Italian genius. The plot bustles and hustles along, and allows the reader to become an armchair sleuth along the way. Old School Ties is stimulating, amusing, and comes as particularly recommended if you enjoy the ‘cosy crime’ genre.
