Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. The indefatigable labours of Chinese commentators have alone rendered the present translation of the Sayings of Confucius a possibility. Next to them I am most indebted to Legge's Confucian Ana lects, a book that is invaluable to the student, although defective as a translation.
