Islands Synopsis

It has been more than 20 years since Ben was marooned on the uninhabited island of Taransay in the Outer Hebrides for a year for 'Castaway', and his subsequent journeys have taken him to the farthest corners of the world: from the remote volcanic island of Tristan Da Cunha in the Atlantic to the Falkland Islands in the South Atlantic. But it is the islands of Britain that really capture his imagination. There are more than 6,000 islands around the UK of which 136 are permanently inhabited. Each one is unique, their character born from their social and geographical history. Written from a little cabin on the Atlantic Ocean, 'Islands' will be a philosophical story about our relationship with our landscape, intertwined with the story of Ben's month-long island odyssey around the Scottish islands in search of the isles, the people and the history that define each island.
