A hard-hitting, fast-moving slicing wow of a book. An old case is reopened when new evidence appears, and a violent predator hunts his next victim. It’s no secret that I get jump-up-and-down excited about Karin Slaughter’s novels. She has the most wonderful ability to pitch full-on sharp storytelling and blasts of drama alongside thoughtfully handled social issues and relationship dilemmas. This could easily be read as a standalone, however there are two series that link to this novel, Will Trent and Grant County. Both series are just too good to miss, and I highly recommend them. For those who have read both sets, in this particular book time slides along a different path in order to make two time frames work. The author’s note perfectly explains why at the end, but (big but), make sure you don’t read the author’s note until you have read every last drop of the novel! Will Trent and Sara Linton work with the rest of the team, while the past runs alongside and does some serious meddling. Please note there are some fairly graphic descriptions of medical examinations and brutal attacks within the novel. Karin Slaughter doesn’t shy away from highlighting a distressing subject matter, which she mentions in her notes and the last part of her acknowledgments. While graphic, it is not gratuitous, and I felt every word that made me wince was necessary. The Silent Wife is another winner of a read, it sent goosebumps skittering down my arms and this, her twentieth novel, has been chosen as a LoveReading Star Book, Book of the Month, and Liz Pick.

Another glorious Will Trent thriller. Karin Slaughter is a master, who draws you in and keeps you hanging on by your fingertips until the very end.

Having stumbled across Karin Slaughter by accident a year or so ago I have now devoured every book she has so far written. I love her stand alones and am quite fond of the Grant County series, but Will Trent has me absolutely hooked.
This is another Will Trent masterpiece.
The way Karin Slaughter writes, her descriptions, her passion, I can see Will, feel his emotions pouring off him. I want so desperately for everything to always be ok for him. He is an incredible detective, but more importantly an incredible human being who is not infallible.
Dr Sara Linton, his girlfriend and colleague, is also amazing. She is highly intelligent, compassionate, empathic, but also like Will has had major trauma in her life.
This novel focuses on the disappearance and accidental deaths of several women.... Read Full Review

A riveting, intense, spine-tingling thriller.

The Silent Wife is part of the Will Trent and Sara Linton series. However, it is so good, it can absolutely be enjoyed as a stand alone book. Karen Slaughter is a master at weaving multiple strands together, alternating back and forth between providing the background to the story by bringing us back to the first murder and the initial investigation and forwarding to the present day and several murders later. She does not hold back, as she describes the attacks in graphic detail, that must have required a lot of research. The killer’s methods become more horrific and ruthless as he becomes more practised. The touching relationship between Will and Sara provides light relief in the story. They have both been through so much, that you really will everything to work out for them.... Read Full Review

A gritty and gripping thriller from one of the most popular authors around...definitely one not to be missed if crime writing is your genre of choice.

The Silent Wife is the tenth book in Karin Slaughter's Will Trent series, set in and around Atlanta, Georgia. If like me, you're a newcomer to this author's work (how did that happen?), you might be forgiven for thinking that ten books into a series is not the best place to start. You would, however, be wrong. Ms Slaughter's skilful storytelling will take you effortlessly backwards and forwards in time, to provide all the past history that you need to understand where the main characters are at and how they got there.

But this book is not for the fainthearted looking for an easy read.... Read Full Review
