A triumphant Blood and Gold erupts from the seeds of expectation sown in Steel and Snow, in the most gripping and addictive novel of A Song of Ice and Fire yet. Martins writing just keeps getting better and better, his attention to detail is astonishing as he brings this unpredictable and wondrous world to life. The heart and soul of this epic series is found in the structure of the land; from the teeming towns and cities crowded with infighting to the war ravaged countryside overflowing with cunning and retribution.
Revenge… revenge is a dark, all consuming and torturous course to take; the women in this series seem to walk its treacherous path more than most. Suspect everyone, trust no one, particularly those you have betrayed (even more so if they are family). Innocence and honour flounders, however a scattering of the dishonourable fleetingly visit gallantry and once in a blue moon, one of the more corrupt and contemptible characters is handed well deserved justice.
The next in the series, A Feast for Crows is a must read after this engrossing masterpiece and whatever you do, don’t forget, Winter is coming!
HBO's hit series A GAME OF THRONES is based on George R R Martin's internationally bestselling series A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE, the greatest fantasy epic of the modern age. A STORM OF SWORDS: BLOOD AND GOLD is the SECOND part of the third volume in the series.

The Starks are scattered. Robb Stark may be King in the North, but he must bend to the will of the old tyrant Walder Frey if he is to hold his crown. And while his youngest sister, Arya, has escaped the clutches of the depraved Cersei Lannister and her son, the capricious boy-king Joffrey, Sansa Stark remains their captive. Meanwhile, across the ocean, Daenerys Stormborn, the last heir of the Dragon King, delivers death to the slave-trading cities of Astapor and Yunkai as she approaches Westeros with vengeance in her heart.
