This is a real antidote to those celeb loving, shopping loving novels, for Ember the protagonist in this debut novel, hates everything to do with celebrity, is a bit of a rebel, in fact so rebellious getting kicked out of boarding schools is a regular occurrence and has a celebrity father and step mother whose interest in her is minimal. Sassy and entertaining the novel makes clever use of fresh and quirky graphic illustrations integrated throughout the text. Crucially though the author has understood the teenage psyche in the writing of Ember Fury, so much so that you feel she might even be one.
Having celebrity parents isn't as hot as it sounds. But when your dad's more interested in blazing a trail to the top of the charts than why you got kicked out of school, again, it can make you seriously angry. And if there's one thing Ember knows, it's that the smallest spark of anger can ignite a whole heap of trouble.
