Yorkshire vet Matt Jackson-Smith tells his story, and it is a truly feel-good read, even as it covers the reality of life and death. The foreword by Peter Wright describes Matt Jackson-Smith as: “larger-than-life…full of boundless energy and enthusiasm for his work as a vet and life in general”, and that clearly comes across. We hear about his life growing up, the moments that shaped his future career and continued love for animals. The animals and their owners take their turn in the spotlight, from moving heart-felt tales, to amusing incidents, and the wonderfully emotional success stories. You really don’t need to watch the Yorkshire Vet TV series in order to enjoy this book, I read it from a nature and animal lover point of view and thoroughly enjoyed everything about this memoir. Matt Jackson-Smith says: “I liken veterinary medicine to a rollercoaster ride with its ups, downs, trials and tribulations…the scale of the highs and lows in this profession is staggering”. He writes with an open and honest eloquence, not shying away from the darker side of his role, but also ensuring the joy and laughter shines through. You really feel he is in the job for all the right reasons, and is constantly learning and improving. His love for all animals as a mixed practice vet is inspiring. My Life as a Yorkshire Vet is a wonderfully engaging and rewarding autobiography, written with empathy and kindness. Highly recommended.

I really enjoy this connected series of books published by Mirror Books. The author mentions attending Cannon Hall Farm to look after the animals there in My Life as a Yorkshire Vet, and Living Our Best Lives covers the farming dynasty owners.
