"A thoughtful and stimulating introduction to scent and aromatherapy when used for its therapeutic effect and overall wellbeing. "
A thoughtful and stimulating introduction to scent and aromatherapy when used for its therapeutic effect and overall wellbeing. Forming part of the The Healing Power of series, this is a lovely inclusion and ensures a continuity within holistic healing. Author Ellen Rowland introduces herself in a friendly open way, she teaches aromatherapy workshops, runs an aromatherapy massage clinic, and runs workshops on aromatherapy, skincare and herbs for the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. She also engages with community outreach programmes, and educational programmes promoting plant science. This book continues with the lovely calming colours used previously which, when paired with quotes and illustrations, make these books so welcoming. Ellen Rowland acts as a mentor throughout this book, interpreting the science and history, awakening your senses, discussing memories, and introducing you to aromatherapy. She thoughtfully explains that this book is not to be used to treat people, and offers safety guidelines along the way. The idea of a scent diary was fascinating, and I loved the exercises. She clearly outlines how aromatherapy can play an important part on our emotional, mental and physical health. As she tells us: “Throughout, the book aims to explore how we can all learn to better appreciate, respect and harness the benefits that these amazing aromatic materials generously lend us, and how they play a role in supporting our health and wellbeing”. The Healing Power of Scent acts as an informative guide and support to help form a more meaningful connection with fragrance.
