We've been a fan of Dragon's Den in our house right back from the start, 2005 to be exact, and we always look forward to a new face in the Den. Will they become a fave investor or will they just annoy the heck out of us (sorry but that's you Touker!)
So when Steven Bartlett arrived in 2021 to sit on those hallowed chairs, I was excited. The youngest ever Dragon at just 28 years old. I wanted to hear what he had to say. A refreshing change. And blimey, he's been a game changer.
It wasn't an easy ride for him. The path to success wasn't a smooth one. But from a young age, he displayed an entrepreneurial spirit that has led him to being a CEO, founder, co-founder and board member of four industry-leading companies that at their peaks reached a valuation of more than $1 billion. Oh and he's only 30. And that's before we talk about the fact that he's an investor in more than 40 companies, and an author. Plus of course the reason we're here: a podcaster. He's spent the last 4 years interviewing the world's most successful individuals from business, sports, entertainment and academia. And the Diary of a CEO podcast is Europe's leading podcast and one of the fastest growing podcasts in the world right now. If anyone's worth interviewing, he's probably been there and done it.
And he's definitely got the T-shirt.
This beast of a book takes you through Bartlett's 33 laws of business and life. It's critical reading for anyone wanting to smash their potential and become the very best version of themselves via his four pillars of greatness: the self, the story, the philosophy and the team. It's so insightful and brilliantly simple. Yet so complex. Brilliantly constructed. Brilliantly written. Obvious but not obvious. You'll scribble notes all the way through, highlight passages, I even grabbed my post-it notes at one point. And I consumed it hungrily.
Covering everything from prioritisation, habit loops, leaning into bizarre behaviour, the endowment effect, psychological moonshots, the discipline equation, leveraging the power of progress and always sweating the small stuff.
Rooted in psychology and behavioural science this is a masterclass on success from a cast of the world's most successful people. It's intelligent, humble, inspirational and a reminder that learning should never end.
I'm off to fill my buckets.

The Diary of a CEO Synopsis
The new book by STEVEN BARTLETT: entrepreneur, podcaster and Dragon's Den star
This is not a book about business strategy. Strategy changes like the seasons.
This is a book about something much more permanent.
At the very heart of all the success and failure I've been exposed to - both my own entrepreneurial journey and through the thousands of interviews I've conducted on my podcast - are a set of principles that can stand the test of time, apply to any industry, and be used by anyone who is search of building something great or becoming someone great.
These are the fundamental laws that will ensure excellence.
They are rooted in psychology and behavioral science, are based on the wisdom of tens of thousands of people I've surveyed across every continent and age group, and of course, drawn from the conversations I've had on my chart-topping podcast with the world's most successful people.
These laws will work now or in 100 years from now. Are you ready to get started?

About Steven Bartlett
Steven Bartlett is the 28-year-old founder of the social media marketing agency, Social Chain.
