"An endless tide of beautiful emotions wrapped up in words."
Available in Kindle, Hardback and Paperback from Amazon
Paper Targets - Art Can Be Murder was an endless tide of beautiful emotions wrapped up in words. Enzi, a boy who could not read, lost his home when his mom died and his father succumbed to grief. Enzi, now a man with all his belongings in his car and symbols, equations, and everything to do with calculations as his safe place. Words never came easily to Enzi, even when he fell in love with Helen and then later, Kaori who were both artists, whose art he could understand without speaking, whose art spoke to him in the way mathematics had pulled him in. Art can be words, reflections of who are, our fears, the past, and the present. Art can be murder and Enzi was about to find that out.
The first sentence got me intrigued about the book and almost immediately, I connected with the main character on an emotional level. Steve Saroff's writing style made me nostalgic throughout the novel, maybe it was the main character not settling in a place and the continuous mention of nature, the open space, mountains, and the stars but it reminded me of the movie "Nomadland." The book started off soothingly, got complicated in the middle, and ended in the same soothing mood. It is a book that leaves you wanting more and wishing you hadn't read it yet, so you could read it again without knowing what was going to happen.
Paper Targets - Art Can Be Murder is a unique book that must be read quietly and gently, lest you miss any important details. However, prepare for the nostalgic mood of the book to be imprinted in your heart because it is in mine.
