"A good recommendation for fans of historical family dramas."
Family reunites over the sharing of secrets and losses during WWII. When Georgina receives the message from her mother that her grandmother Eve is ill in London, she doesn’t know what is waiting for her at the end of her transatlantic flight. A family that has grown distant, Georgina has a strained relationship with her mum, who is in turn resentful of her mother, Georgina has fond memories of her grandmother from childhood but has since fallen out of touch. Over the course of this story, secrets are revealed, new bonds are formed and some old wounds are healed. ‘The Glovemaker's War’ by Katherine Williams is an immersive story. With the author’s vivid descriptions we sit alongside Georgina as she discovers more about her family history, and follow Eve’s journey as an undercover courier for the Resistance in WWII. The alternating perspectives allow us time to see Georgina and 1944’s Eve’s stories unfold, with plenty of time to immerse yourself in one timeline before being teased back to the other, to see what happens next or the impact of the latest revelations. Although the relationship with Angela is unfortunately left with a torn edge, this book has a heart-warming feel of familial love and reconnection. A good recommendation for fans of historical family dramas.
