LoveReading Says
The accolade of LoveReading Star Book is well deserved. Spiky, provocative, and oh-so stimulating, this addictive read is highly recommended. The twists and turns of a reality game show send the contestants into meltdown, when one goes missing and a murder occurs, DC Morgan has her work cut out. This is the second in the DC Ffion Morgan thriller series after The Last Party, and I am already a confirmed fan. Author Clare Mackintosh not only keeps the wit and suspense sparkling, she also beautifully balances the serious elements in the plot with entertainment value. The setting in itself creates tension with the English Welsh border being policed by two forces. Ffion also has the difficulties of being a local to contend with, her inside knowledge directly affecting her work and home life balance. One of my favourite aspects is the wide cast and direct focus on different characters, which ratchets up the tension. The smallest of details matter, the descriptions allow you to settle into your surroundings while remaining hyper-alert. Trust is scarce, even among the investigators, and it ensured that my mind worked overtime. The ending was wonderfully satisfying, the second book in the series feels remarkably different, and yet the elements that worked so well in the first remain. I want to shout about A Game of Lies which is full of slicing sharp humour, the most fabulous characters, and a wickedly tight plot. Bravo.

A Game of Lies Synopsis
They say the camera never lies.
But on this show, you can't trust anything you see.
Stranded in the Welsh mountains, seven reality show contestants have no idea what they've signed up for.
Each of these strangers has a secret. If another player can guess the truth, they won't just be eliminated - they'll be exposed live on air. The stakes are higher than they'd ever imagined, and they're trapped.
The disappearance of a contestant wasn't supposed to be part of the drama. Detective Ffion Morgan has to put aside what she's watched on screen, and find out who these people really are - knowing she can't trust any of them.
And when a murderer strikes, Ffion knows every one of her suspects has an alibi . . . and a secret worth killing for.
