Town is prosperous and safe, but only if you’re a citizen with “valuable skills and assets,” which the residents of Saha Estates are not. It's a compelling story about the two sides of society: L and L2s, and those who don't have any categorisation, those perceived undeserving of a category - the Sahas, living on the edge of society, on the brink of collapse. Everything has been taken away from them: friendships, religion, personal choice, freedom of speech. They have been independent for decades, for 40 years they have existed without oversight. Without what we have come to expect in civilised society, without even plumbing, gas lines or electricity, living in squalor. It's a secret passageway in a world, a secluded island within an isolated country. Where people run to. Where people run from the law, from mistakes, from terror, from persecution.

When paeditrician Su is found dead, Do-kyung runs, knowing what it means and goes into hiding. He left her, unsure of whether she was alive or dead. His sister Jin-kyung is left behind and begins her quest for truth. Through this quest we meet the other inhabitants of Saha.

Translated by Jamie Chang, much like her lauded and multi-million copy selling Kim Jiyoung, Born 1982, we come to care about the disparate people who have found their way to Saha. From the reluctant midwife to the "master key", survivor,  unknowing test subject to the separated siblings, it's a haunting and heartbreaking Orwellian tale of oppression.
