LoveReading Says

Kate Galley’s debut plays out like a perfect Christmas movie – an entertaining drama full of humour, love, enough sorrow to bring Scrooge to tears and a big, heart-warming finale. Recently widowed, 76-year-old Evelyn Pringle embarks on a Christmas ‘turkey and tinsel’ coach tour to the Isle of Wight. She has a life-changing letter to deliver to a stranger and she’s not prepared to let her anxieties, or well-meaning sister, stand in her way. What starts out as a simple, solo mission quickly develops into a life-affirming adventure with two new friends – and a chance for Evelyn to reflect on the hurt that she’s carried around with her years. The chemistry between Evelyn, Cynthia and Joy is beautifully crafted; although developed over only a few days, the relationship between the three ladies never feels forced. Even after the final page has turned, you can still picture them sitting at the bar in The Retreat, laughing, crying and sharing a few glasses of festive fizz! The Second Chance Holiday Club won’t take you long to read, but it will leave an impression. It will remind you that there’s always hope, even in the dark moments, and that no matter what your stage of life, there’s always time to make new memories … and new friends. A joyful read for the winter season.

An inspiring book about friendship and new beginnings.

What a lovely book this was. I was hooked from page one and couldn't put it down. Three very different ladies in their seventies booking a coach trip to the Isle of Wight at Christmas. A simple theme but it turned into much more than just a coach trip. The three of them found something they all needed - friendship. Something we all need. They also discovered it was never too late to do things you'd never done before. I found myself in turn liking the characters, disliking them, being irritated by them, sympathizing with them, being surprised by them but with them all the way. At the end I was left wanting more. I want to know how their lives turned out.... Read Full Review

I can’t believe this excellent well written book The Second Chance Holiday Club is a debut book by Kate Galley. I love finding new authors and now Kate Galley has become one of my favourite new authors. I found this story unputdownable, as I instantly became trapped into the life about the main character Evelyn Pringle.

Who knew a Turkey and Tinsel break would become a life changing experience for Evelyn, Cynthia and Joy

Wow this book was such a delight to read. It tells the story of three ladies who have never met before and have all decided to get away on a Turkey and Tinsel break to the Isle of Wight. Evelyn, Cynthia and Joy all have their own reasons for booking this trip but none of them had any idea as to how it would develop and what it would mean for them all.
Evelyn is on a journey of discovery both to find out who her late husband really was and also who she is now without him. The writing is exquisite, there are lots of laughs and funny quips along with some very poignant moments as the ladies start to open up to each other. It touches on grief, love, betrayal, friendship and futures.... Read Full Review
