Hiding out in a small village in France, ex-Special Forces veteran turned vigilante Mallory is trying to keep out of trouble by hiding out in a small village in France. One night in a bar he meets an old man afraid for his granddaughter, worried about the young man with whom she's become involved.

Unable to resist the lure of action, and the opportunity to help a family in need, Mallory is drawn into a turf war it will take all his skills to survive.

The name Ant Middleton will be familiar to many. As the charismatic lead instructor in the hugely successful SAS: Who Dares Wins series on Channel 4, he became a familiar face on our screens until his personal philosophies became at odds with those of the production company and he moved on to pastures new. Since that time, the TV series has declined in popularity almost as quickly as Middleton’s reputation has grown, not just as a TV celebrity but also as a writer.

A series of popular non-fiction titles including First Man In and The Wall established Middleton’s reputation with the written word but could he write fiction? Could he use his undoubted experience and knowledge to compile a creative work that would entertain as well as pass the undoubted critics that would, no doubt, want to read and examine his efforts to the nth degree?

Middleton silenced his critics with Cold Justice, a highly rated thriller that brought great pleasure to readers in the action-adventure and military genres.  Mallory, the author’s lead character, was described as being more believable than others in similar works and the plot was said be well-paced with plenty of twists and turns.

I haven’t had the pleasure of reading any of Ant Middleton’s previous offerings before Red Mist, so I came to his writing with no pre-conceptions. What I can say is he appears to have made the transition from TV personality to thriller writer with aplomb. The style of Red Mist is easy to read, easy to follow and easy to become gripped by. Mallory is a great lead and, I’ve no doubt, is a creation we will see a lot more of. Red Mist is as authentic as it is entertaining.
