A newly renovated lighthouse on a remote island provides a perfect atmospheric setting for any crime novel. Fran Dorricott's vivid, creepy descriptions certainly set the scene in The Lighthouse, when a group of six old friends hold a reunion weekend. There's a strong sense of isolation and abandonment, particularly with the worsening weather. Group dynamics are shattered as the tension builds, and the characters' linked pasts create unease and distrust. Meanwhile, something or someone on the island wants to stay hidden - and wants them to leave - bringing a supernatural/horror element to the plot, too. This is a slowburning, character-driven thriller told from different character's viewpoints, culminating in a dramatic life-changing ending that will leave none of them untouched. The Lighthouse is an ideal read for fans of spooky locked-room mysteries.

A great atmospheric read that kept me wanting more and guessing till the end!

The Lighthouse follows 6 friends who get together for a reunion. They hope to spend a nice weekend together at a recently renovated lighthouse the is on the remote Scottish island. However, things don’t quite go to plan when items and even members of the group start going missing!!

This was an exciting story that pulled me in from the beginning and kept me guessing till the very end!! The story is well written with plenty of twists that I really didn’t see coming. I also really enjoyed how the story is told through multiple points of view. Each chapter is told from the perspective of one of the three main characters, Kira, Moria and Genevieve.

I really liked the way Fran has created an intriguing cast of characters.... Read Full Review

I have no reason not to recommend this book, a perfect escape to a remote island from the comfort and protection of your own home!

Fran Dorricott is a Derby based author who decided to change direction and write a “creepy island book”. “The Lighthouse” is a chilling and intensely atmospheric thriller for readers who love a locked room mystery.

Told from several characters points of view, this slow burn mystery certainly gave off some distinctly creepy vibes. An isolated, abandoned but newly renovated island, constantly ravaged by wild seas and turbulent weather, was the perfect setting for six friends to spend the weekend, rekindling their friendships now they are older.... Six old friends are looking forward to a quiet relaxing weekend reminiscing about old times, on an isolated Scottish Island, but no-one would later be pulling up Trip Adviser and recommending the visit!

This is the story of six old university friends who are looking forward to a quiet relaxing weekend reminiscing about old times, on an isolated Scottish Island; one of the friends having arranged it at a special rate because she is doing a write-up and photos for the newly refurbished cottage and lighthouse there.
The actual plot is fairly simple but what sets this book apart is the excellent characterisations of the friends, the relationship dynamics between them, and the atmosphere created which builds to a gripping crescendo.... Read Full Review
