I was hoping, really, really hoping that the ‘Promise Falls trilogy’ would continue past the third book, and quite literally jumped up and down with glee when I heard it had. You could read ‘Parting Shot’ as a standalone, however I recommend starting with the trilogy, as it is superb and leads into this book. Private Investigator Cal Weaver and Detective Barry Duckworth are back in action, Cal deviating from investigation into protection and Duckworth trying to solve a confusing case involving retribution. Delving into the horrors of on-line trolling, abuse, and worse, Linwood Barclay has hit the nail right on the head of a disturbing trend and then hurled it into a vortex. I was hooked from the get-go and as the tale spiralled and began to weave together, took a deep breath and held on tight. ‘Parting Shot’ is a clever, disturbing, gripping read and I can whole-heartedly recommend it.
