Colleen Hoover (CoHo as she's affectionately known by her fans) is the #1 New York Times bestselling author. Her books have sold more than 20 million copies worldwide and in the US she currently holds six of the top 10 spots on the New York Times paperback fiction bestseller list. She's sold 8.6 million print books this year alone!
Over the past decade, Hoover has grown from debut self-published author to publishing powerhouse. And there is no sign of her slowing down. Hoover's next novel, It Starts With Us which is the follow-up to her bestselling It Ends With Us, is set to publish on October 18th, and you can pre-order it now!
Shrouded in secrecy, a global publication on the very strictest of embargoes, the only person in the UK who’s read it yet is her editor at Simon & Schuster. How jealous we are of that.
In the early days of pursuing her dream to become a writer, Hoover would write on a laptop borrowed from her mother and as a thank you she gave her first novel to her mother as a Christmas gift, and not long after, she self-published it to share with friends and family.
In 2012 Slammed became her debut, her first published novel and her first book to appear on bestseller lists. At the time she was making $9 an hour as a social worker living in a trailer with her husband and three sons. She followed it up with Point of Retreat, as Layken and Will's emotion-packed story continued and delivered the final instalment of the beloved Slammed trilogy in 2013 with This Girl.
She quit her job to write full time and has been a steady feature on bestseller lists since, although her popularity has exploded in the past two years with the help of #BookTok.
Although her books are united by being eminently readable page-turners, she has written across genres - YA, romantic comedies, a ghost story, a gothic suspense novel, novels exploring issues as domestic violence and child sexual abuse, and steamy romances like Ugly Love. Whatever the genre, they are addictive...and her fervent fans want to follow her to the ends of the earth and back.
Not all CoHO fans (who refer to themselves as CoHorts) adore all of her books, but they’ve shown themselves to be willing to follow her into new areas. Whatever the genre, whatever the book she grabs the reader by the scruff of the neck and drags them in to gobsmacking effect. You'll find a gazillion gushing reactions to her books' brilliant climaxes on social media.
It Ends with Us is a high intensity heartbreaking romance that has arguably generated the most social media buzz of Hoover’s novels. If you're looking for a pure tearjerker, look no further. And don't forget the tissues! It published six years ago and looks like it's not going anywhere for a while.
Verity graced our bookshelves last year and we loved it although it was darker and very different from most of Hoover's other books, more of a romantic psychological thriller: "Ooh this is a page turner, a twisty turny thriller that will have you hooked with added bucketfuls of emotion, romance, lust, family drama and intrigue to sate every reader."
And there is more to come. She is set to release six books with three publishers over the next five years. So if you're not a CoHort yet, what are you waiting for, try one of her books out for size; her series are detailed below in order for your ease.
