Following the announcement of the Book of the Year shortlists for the The British Book Awards 2024 on the 8th March, this morning we've embraced the announcement of the Trade Awards shortlists and have exciting news. We've been shortlisted in the Book Retailer of the Year category.

The British Book Awards, also known as the #Nibbies, is a celebration of books and all who make them. The awards look to affirm, connect and energise the world of reading by celebrating both the authors and illustrators who have stirred our hearts and imaginations and the industry who works behind the scenes to bring these books to readers. It showcases the intimate connection between books, their makers and their audience.

The whole team here at LoveReading is passionate about books, encourage reading for pleasure and helping fund school libraries. We are delighted to be shortlisted for Book Retailer of the Year.

Introducing this year's shortlist, The Bookseller stated: ‘While book sales volumes softened in 2023, it was an excellent year for these seven retailers. The dominance of internet operators—including two, LoveReading and World of Books, that make this shortlist for the first time—reflects the accelerated migration to online spending during Covid, and leaves Waterstones and the National Trust as the only bricks-and-mortar booksellers.’

The LoveReading family exists because reading matters, and books change lives. Our leading book recommendation websites LoveReading and LoveReading4Kids now feature an online bookstore with social purpose where 25% of money spent can be donated to a school of the buyer's choice, to spend on books. Schools across the nation use our LoveReading4Schools portal to encourage reading for pleasure and fund new books.

The LoveReading brand naturally evolved into an online bookstore, but we were keen to make a difference. As well as delivering a steady stream of book recommendations, we wanted to make a positive contribution to society and impact positively in our communities.

Reading has a huge impact on children’s wellbeing, academic achievements, and future success. But cuts to school funding means many children don’t have access to well-stocked libraries. LoveReading and LoveReading4Kids have created a way to redress that shortfall; an easy way for people to support a school in their local community. We have so far donated £50,000 to schools, and we are excited about the potential of this funding opportunity for our school members as the site grows further.

Even if the buyer doesn’t nominate or have an affinity with a school, 10% of the spend is donated to schools in need. Book buyers also receive 10% off the RRP so that our offering is competitive.

We want to say good luck to our fellow nominees.

The winners of The British Book Awards will be revealed at a ceremony that will take place in London on the 13th May. Wish us luck and keep an eye out for the results!
