Hay on Sky 2011

9781908006646.jpgAt the end of this month is the UK’s most prestigious book festival held at Hay-on-Wye in the Welsh borders. In the past decade it has gone from a quaint (usually) rain soaked book event to a massive multimedia celebration of the written word. Again this year The Sky Book Show will be broadcasting from Hay and we will have a special section on the site to support the books of the authors appearing on the show. Finally...When this book arrived in the Lovereading office it was snapped up over 4 consecutive days by 4 different people.  Each reader was moved to both tears and laughter and read it virtually in a sitting.  It's the story of Kate who, in her 30s having been a keen runner, had a massive stroke that as far as the doctors were concerned left her all but dead with no chance of walking, talking or swallowing again, in fact she had what is now called 'Locked-in Syndrome'.  Running Free is a moving and inspirational story of survival that celebrates life, friendship and sheer bloody-mindedness, please do read it. P.S. This year sees the 75th anniversary of the classic American Civil War romance Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell – and frankly ‘we do give a damn’ – as even now it deserves to be read…. P.P.S. Hot of the the press is the news that the American Literary giant Philip Roth has just been awarded the International Mann Booker – discover more about his stunning writing today. Happy Lovereading!
