It would be criminal to miss this..
And if you like crime don’t miss
The Field of Blood 2-part TV adaptation based on the book by Denise Mina, who has been called ‘the female Ian Rankin’.
Starring David Morrissey, BBC Scotland viewers will already know how good this is as it was first transmitted in May – now it has earned itself a slot on BBC1 at the end of August. Set in 1982, newspaper copy boy Paddy Meehan must battle prejudices to get to the truth after the story of a murder involves her family. Keep an eye on the TV schedules for the exact broadcast dates and times.
Oh Man! – Man Booker Longlist Announced
Perhaps the most coveted literary prize of them all, the longlist for the 2011 Man Booker Prize has been announced. In a massive ‘Indie’ landslide, the 13 titles (chosen from 138 hopefuls) include one past winner, two former shortlisters, one previous longlister and four first-time authors.
Personally speaking we are delighted to see Carol Birch’s
Jamrach’s Menagerie on the list – a novel that is loved across the board in the office. We also wholeheartedly recommend:
On Canaan’s Side by Sebastian Barry,
The Stranger’s Child by (former Booker winner) Alan Hollinghurst, the brilliant
Snowdrops by A. D. Miller and
A Cupboard Full of Coats by Yvvette Edwards.
Life. Enhanced! - Health and Lifestyle Section Makeover
This summer our very popular
Health and Lifestyle section is getting its very own makeover - is well worth a look. Our personal stress-busting favourite is:
The Power of Meditation – A 28 Day Programme for Real Happiness by Sharon Salzberg. This is a practical, non-patronising, non-religious guide to using meditation to enhance your day to day life. Try it!
Finally, do please have a look at our inspirational ‘
