Over the past decade, he has established himself as a highly respected outdoors writer and is a member of the Outdoor Writers Association of America; his articles regularly appear in the Outdoors section of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, the Outdoor News, and Pheasants Forever Journal, and he has appeared on various outdoors-oriented radio shows. His highly acclaimed series, "Boundary Waters Passage," appeared over the course of six weeks in the summer of 2019 in the Star Tribune and won the AP Sports Editors Award for Best Project (besting the New York Times and the Washington Post) and the Minnesota Society of Professional Journalists award for Best Web Project.
