Dr. Liangtong Zhan is a professor and deputy director of the Institute of Geotechnical Engineering at Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China. He received his Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. His research focuses on waste mechanics, geoenvironmental engineering, unsaturated soil mechanics, and hazard mitigation. His recent research interests include the geotechnical properties of municipal solid waste and sewage sludge, landfill cover and barriers, remediation of contaminated soils, air and water flow, thermo-hydro-mechanical coupled modeling, mitigation of natural hazards induced by extreme climate conditions etc. He has published more than 50 papers in international journals and conference proceedings, and serves as an editorial board member for the journal Geotextiles and Geomembranes and Canadian Geotechnical Journal.
