The late Burtron H. Davis (1934-2018) obtained his PhD from the University of Florida. He worked in industry and academia, but most of his career was spent at the Center for Applied Energy Research (CAER) at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, USA. He was leader of the Clean Fuels and Chemical (CFC) group since its inception was an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Kentucky. His research focus has been mainly on catalysis, often with ties to industry. He served as member of the Sasol Heterogeneous Catalysis Advisory Board for a period of ten years. In 2002 he was awarded the Henry H. Storch Award in Fuel Science by the American Chemical Society for his contributions in catalysis, Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, and coal conversion. He is author of numerous publications and editor of several books.
