In this book, I have comprised many thoughts, feelings, and struggles of many people dedicated to the Christian faith. I've used moments of my life as well as moments of the lives of others to really drive the message that 'Nobody's perfect, and we all need one another. Often times, as I travel in the ministry, I notice that many people are afraid to voice their pains, voice their issues, and voice their brokenness. I really wish to clarify that it's through our brokenness that the love of Jesus really begins to shape and mold us into His image and likeness. We can't come to God with everything all together. We have to be humble enough to come to Him and allow Him to put us back together. I hope that someone is encouraged to love a little harder, have faith a little longer, and to hope without end.
Paul is an interesting and unusual young man. He is able to see people inside out. This means that he sees personality first and then external appearances. Paul's eyes see light shimmering off good people or shadows lurking in not so good people. His circle of friends and his mother are unaware of this ability he has. But he is not alone in this. He has an unseen friend; a friend who leads and guides his thoughts as he goes through his life experiences.
Paul also has a romantic interest. The girl he is falling for, you could only fall for if you did see people inside out. She is absolutely beautiful, on the inside!
He knows he is not like other people. He knows that he always feels out of place or that something is just not right. The trouble is he can't put his finger on just what that something really is.
The biggest burden and challenge in his life is struggling with the fact that his mother does not speak. He knows that she can speak because that was the last thing his father told him before he left. She just chooses not to. What Paul doesn't know is that there was another child; a brother who died before he was born.
His best friend Johnny's brother is in jail for a crime he didn't commit. And as if that is not bad enough, he has also managed to get his girlfriend pregnant.
It’s a known fact that most butterflies struggle getting their wings. It seems as if the pain of leaving the cocoon is often times just too much to bear. However, without this experience, the butterfly will never gain the strength to fly. So even in the midst of all of the pain and strife, the butterfly presses on anyway. But what happens to the butterflies that don’t leave the cocoon? Do they just go back to being plain old caterpillars? Or due to the absence of their wings, do they become crippled for life? If truth be told, most people float through life just like this. With the pain of the past just harboring too close to home, many people stumble through life too afraid to step over their failures, to cut ties with their pain, or even to fly by their heartaches. But no matter how hard they try to avoid confronting these issues, they can never grow into the person that God has called them to be without it. As I turned this truth into reality, I begin to write this piece. This book deals with the lives of two young ladies (Taja and Nicki) who come from very different backgrounds. Just as butterflies struggle to leave the cocoon, both of these young ladies are struggling to press their way through life. They’ve allowed their past situations to cripple them in their growth emotionally and in their walk with God spiritually. Through an unusual twist of events, both Taja and Nicki will learn that both redemption and love are possible for those who believe. As the story unfolds, they’ll finally learn how it feels to spread their wings and fly.
