Auguste Dupin bereitete die Bühne für exzentrische, logische Privatdetektive wie Sherlock Holmes und Hercule Poirot. Dupin machte seinen ersten Auftritt in Poes Kurzgeschichte 'The Murders in the Rue Morgue' (1841), die weithin als der erste Kriminalroman dieses Genres gilt. Er erscheint erneut in 'The Mystery of Marie Rogêt' (1842) und 'The Purloined Letter' (1844). Dupin ist kein professioneller Detektiv und seine Motivation, die Geheimnisse zu lösen, ändert sich in den drei Geschichten. Der gestohlene Brief: Kurzgeschichte von Edgar Allan Poe gelesen von Richard Heinrich. Übersetzung aus dem Amerikanischen von Wilhelm Cremer. Der gestohlene Brief (The purloined letter) ist eine Detektivgeschichte von Edgar Allan Poe, die erstmals im Dezember 1844 in dem literarischen Almanach 'The Gift for 1845' veröffentlicht und bald darauf in verschiedenen Journalen und Zeitungen nachgedruckt wurde. Die Erzählung ist die letzte von Poes drei Detektivgeschichten um C. Auguste Dupin, zu denen auch 'Der Doppelmord in der Rue Morgue' und 'Das Geheimnis der Marie Rogêt' zählen. Inhaltsangabe: Hauptperson ist, wie bereits in 'Der Doppelmord in der Rue Morgue', Auguste Dupin. Die Geschichte wird aus der Ich-Perspektive eines seiner Freunde erzählt. Dupin wird vom Pariser Polizeipräfekten um Hilfe bei der Suche nach einem Brief gebeten, der einer adligen Dame in erpresserischer Absicht gestohlen wurde. Der Täter ist zwar bekannt, trotzdem kann er nicht verhaftet werden, da eine Veröffentlichung oder Vernichtung des Dokuments großen Schaden anrichten würde. Eine Hausdurchsuchung der Polizei bleibt ohne Erfolg. Dupin kommt durch eine Charakteranalyse des Täters zu dem sich als korrekt erweisenden Schluss, dass der Brief nicht etwa aufwendig versteckt ist, sondern ... aber das hören sie bitte selbst. Weihnachtslied - Eine Gespenstergeschichte von Charles Dickens gelesen von Richard Heinrich erschienen im Hörverlag: Puppy Studios Productions Der Weihnachtsklassiker für Jung und Alt in einer Neuauflage. Inhaltsangabe: Der alte Ebenezer Scrooge ist ein hartherziger Geizkragen, wie man ihn im ehrwürdigen London wohl kaum ein zweites Mal antrifft. Nach unregelmäßigem Schulbesuch wurde er 1826 Anwaltsgehilfe und arbeitete als Parlamentsstenograph. Als Reporter beim 'Morning Chronicle' begann er seine Skizzen, die in Buchform als 'Pickwick Papers' veröffentlicht wurden und ihn berühmt machten. Der Untergang des Hauses Usher (The Fall of the House of Usher), ist eine Kurzgeschichte des amerikanischen Autors Edgar Allan Poe, die 1839 in 'Burton's Gentleman's Magazine' und 1840 überarbeitet in der Sammlung 'Tales of the Grotesque and Arabesque' erschien. Inhaltsangabe: Aufgewühlt durch den dringlichen Brief des Jugendfreundes Roderick Usher reitet der namenlose Ich-Erzähler zu dessen Anwesen, dem Hause Usher, das durch seine gespenstische Umgebung, insbesondere den Teich, aus dem es sich erhebt, sowie durch einen Riss, der sich durch das Gemäuer zieht, einen beunruhigenden und schreckenerregenden Eindruck erweckt. Es wird außerdem von dem See erzählt, an dem das Haus Usher liegt. Dort trifft der Erzähler den nervlich stark überreizten, anscheinend an einer Geisteskrankheit leidenden Hausherrn, den letzten Spross eines degenerierten Adelsgeschlechtes. Roderick Usher bittet seinen Besucher, ihm einige Zeit Gesellschaft zu leisten, um seine Krankheit erträglicher zu machen. Kurz darauf stirbt angeblich die Zwillingsschwester des Gastgebers, Lady Madeline, und wird im Keller des Hauses aufgebahrt und in einer Gruft beigesetzt. Während einer Sturmnacht einige Tage später liest der Ich-Erzähler dem nervlich stark angegriffenen und ebenfalls schlaflosen Roderick eine vermeintlich aufheiternde Rittergeschichte vor, die letztlich aber das Grauen vor den unheimlichen Geräuschen im Haus nur potenziert. Durch den Verlauf der Rittergeschichte und die sie begleitenden Geräusche sowie das darauf folgende Geständnis Rodericks wird es offensichtlich, dass Roderick seine Schwester lebendig begraben haben muss. Plötzlich steht Lady Madeline blutüberströmt in der Tür; sie wirft sich sterbend auf den Bruder, welcher an dem Schock sofort stirbt. Panisch flüchtet der Ich-Erzähler vom Anwesen und sieht noch, wie der das Haus durchziehende Riss immer weiter auseinanderklafft, bis dieses zusammenbricht und im Teich versinkt.
