The Diamond Sutra: The Lost Knowledge Of The Buddha
The Diamond Sutra, also known as the Vajracchedikā Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra, is a significant Buddhist text that belongs to the Prajñāpāramitā genre, which emphasizes the perfection of wisdom. The Diamond Sutra is considered one of the earliest dated printed texts, dating back to 868 CE. The narrative within the Diamond Sutra revolves around a conversation between the Buddha and his disciple Subhuti. In this dialogue, the Buddha imparts profound teachings on the nature of reality, emphasizing the concept of emptiness (śūnyatā). The central theme is the transcendence of conventional understanding and the realization that all phenomena lack inherent existence. The title 'Diamond Sutra' suggests the sutra's ability to cut through illusion and delusion, much like a diamond's sharpness. The Buddha employs skillful means to guide Subhuti toward enlightenment, emphasizing the importance of cultivating a mind free from attachment and conceptual limitations. The text challenges conventional notions of self, perception, and reality, encouraging practitioners to go beyond dualistic thinking and recognize the interdependence of all phenomena. Throughout the narrative, the Buddha illustrates the nature of emptiness by deconstructing common concepts such as form, sensation, perception, mental formations, and consciousness. The Diamond Sutra concludes with a reminder that the teachings are like a raft meant to help individuals cross the river of suffering, but once the other shore is reached, the raft is no longer needed. Overall, the Diamond Sutra serves as a guide to realizing the ultimate truth, transcending dualities, and attaining liberation from the cycle of birth and death (samsara). Its teachings have had a profound impact on Mahayana Buddhism, emphasizing the importance of wisdom, compassion, and the path to enlightenment.

Gautama Buddha, also known as Siddhartha Gautama, was a spiritual teacher who lived in ancient India between the 6th and 4th centuries BCE. He is the founder of Buddhism, one of the major religions of the world. Buddha was born into a royal family, but he renounced his luxurious lifestyle at the age of 29 to seek the truth about life and the nature of suffering. He spent six years as a wandering ascetic before attaining enlightenment at the age of 35. The Buddha's teachings, known as the Dharma, revolve around the Four Noble Truths, which explain the nature of suffering and the path to its cessation. The core message of Buddhism is that suffering arises from craving and attachment, and that liberation can be attained through the practice of the Eightfold Path, which includes meditation, mindfulness, ethical conduct, and wisdom. The Buddha's teachings have had a profound impact on the spiritual and cultural history of Asia and beyond. His teachings spread rapidly throughout India and other parts of Asia, and they continue to inspire millions of people today. The Buddha's emphasis on non-violence, compassion, and the importance of the present moment has also resonated with many in the West. In addition to his spiritual teachings, the Buddha also provided practical guidance on social and ethical issues. He advocated for the abolition of caste distinctions, the treatment of animals with compassion, and the importance of community and social harmony. Buddha's teachings continue to be relevant and inspiring today. His teachings on the nature of suffering, impermanence, and the importance of self-awareness are particularly relevant in today's fast-paced and materialistic world.

The concept of the 'Waking Buddha' is a profound and transformative idea deeply rooted in Zen Buddhism. It encapsulates the essence of Zen practice, where awakening to one's true nature is not relegated to some far-off spiritual attainment but is a lived reality, an ever-present possibility. In this essay, we will explore the notion of the Waking Buddha, what it means, and how it pertains to our daily lives. The Waking Buddha represents the idea that enlightenment is not an abstract, unattainable goal but an immediate, tangible experience available to each one of us. It is not something to be achieved in a distant future but a realization that can happen here and now. The essence of this concept is mindfulness—being fully present in the current moment, aware of our thoughts, emotions, and surroundings. When we cultivate this awareness, we awaken the Buddha nature that resides within us. Zen teachings emphasize the importance of direct experience over intellectual understanding. The Waking Buddha is about transcending the limitations of the thinking mind and experiencing reality directly. It involves letting go of attachments, judgments, and preconceived notions, allowing the true self to shine forth. This awakening is not reserved for a select few but is a birthright of every sentient being, waiting to be uncovered through diligent practice. The path to becoming the Waking Buddha is not without its challenges. It demands commitment, patience, and a willingness to confront our own inner turmoil. Zen practitioners engage in meditation, mindfulness, and koan practice to break free from the confines of the ego and awaken to their true nature. Koans are paradoxical questions or statements used in Zen practice to provoke deep insight. They challenge the thinking mind, pushing it beyond its logical boundaries and into a realm of direct experience.

Silent Thunder; Meher Baba; Divine Discourses
Meher Baba, took up his avataric duties early in 1922 after seven years of intense work with the five Perfect Masters of the time. Hazrat Babajan of Poona, initiated his spiritual awakening in January, 1914, by kissing him on the forehead. Almost immediately he entered into a state of mind out of touch with normal consciousness. Dazed and apparently insane, he made his way during the next year to Shirdi Sai Baba, the chief of the five Perfect Masters, who acknowledged him publically as the Sustainer of the Universe, and sent him to Upasni Maharaj. As soon as that master saw the young man approaching, he picked up a stone and threw it with great force. It struck him on the forehead exactly where the old woman had kissed him. Thus began al five-year process of regaining normal consciousness while retaining his divine state. During the 1920's he gathered his inner circles of disciples while founding a spiritual community in Ahmednagar, India, with schools, hospitals and other projects. In the middle of the decade he became silent and never again uttered a word. For 44 years he communicated by spelling words on an alphabet board and through hand gestures. He became well known in the West during the 1960's by opposing the use of LSD in the quest for spiritual experiences. In the last years he largely withdrew and intensified his work in seclusion, announcing in the fall of 1968 his work was completed 100% to his satisfaction. On January 31, 1969, one month before his 76th birthday, he left his body, which now lies in the tomb near Ahmednagar, a place of pilgrimage for those who love him.
