"'Why should I work when I could steal.' Thus speaks A.J.Raffles; gentleman, finest slow bowler of his generation and shameless thief. When Bunny, an old school acquaintance, confesses that he will be dishonorably disgraced for writing cheques which his bank will not meet, Raffles persuades him to assist in a burglary. From that moment Bunny is locked into a life of crime and, fortunately for his audience, recounts their adventures in a most thrilling way. With wit as sharp as his schemes, Raffles sees crime not as necessity, but as art: 'Crime is only a sport to me, Bunny, a game to be played for the game's sake — and I honestly believe I love it more for the danger than for the loot.' This complete collection brings together all the thrilling adventures, from The Amateur Cracksman to Raffles' final, unforgettable chapter. Perfect for fans of Sherlock Holmes who prefer their heroes a little more...rogue. E.W. Hornung was Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s brother in law but Raffles is the very antithesis of Sherlock Homes -- yet still a hero -- and one which the Victorians and succeeding generations, perhaps surprisingly, took to their hearts."

King Power: Leicester City’s Remarkable Season
"I HAD A HUNCH WE’D BE CHAMPIONS! The most unlikely story in the history of sport, told by our greatest football writer On 25th March 2015, when King Richard III, recently rescued from a municipal car park, was reburied in Leicester Cathedral, his beloved football team had just lost 4-3 to Tottenham Hotspur and were bottom of the Premier League, relegation certainties. With King Richard finally at rest, everything changed for Leicester City. Here, in his own words, King Richard III tells this, the most remarkable sporting story of all time – how 5,000-1 Premier League outsiders became champions: the goals, the games, the dressing-room banter. He gives us the Jamie Vardy story, from prosthetic-limb factory employee to the most celebrated striker this side of the River Soar; Mahrez, the great Muslim dynamo from Algeria, once stuck in the French seventh tier; the dark days of the sex video and the late December wobble; Lords Drinkwater, Albrighton and the great Tinkerman from Italy, all of them heroes of Shakespearean proportions. This isn’t a fairy-tale, this really happened. From the unsanctioned hand of a much-loved Royal, the greatest football book ever written."

"Ten daring stories from ‘a writer who seems capable of anything’ (Guardian), the Booker Prize-shortlisted Philip Hensher Backdrops vary in this collection of stories from the author of The Northern Clemency – from turmoil in Sudan following the death of a politician in a plane crash, to southern India where a Soho hedonist starts to envisage the crump and soar of munitions. Each story, regardless of location, reveals a great writer at the peak of his powers."

"Sir Richard Hannay introduces this last adventure involving his old friends. John Blenkiron discovers that a ruthless industrialist is plotting to destabilise America and cause global turmoil. Although Bavarian born, Castor plans to dominate the world from Olifa, a small country in Latin America. Hannay realises he is now too old for the job of thwarting these evil designs and enlists the aid of his old friend Sandy Arbuthnot, now Lord Clanroyden. Fortunately, Sir Archibald Roylance and his wife Janet are honeymooning in Olifa and are able to lend a hand. Sandy decides that revolution is the way forward and Buchan draws on his experience of the tactics of the Boers in South Africa to describe the action of the campaign. Also, the villain is captured and Janet is instrumental in effecting his ideological change but at great cost. The novel was published in 1929. It is unlikely to be a coincidence that in the same year American financial markets collapsed giving another Bavarian national, who had been abusing his people, the opportunity to consolidate his power in Germany and, ultimately, make his insane bid for world domination."

"This comprehensive novel consists of three subplots which interlink to form the whole and supply a trio of targets at which Trollope aims his proselytising pen. The first treats on the courtship of a woman by a man whom she does not love and with whom she is not compatible. Mary Lowther will not accept such a marriage of dishonesty. The second deals with the plight of a young woman who has fallen prey to the wiles of an evil seducer and subsequently adopts a life of prostitution. Trollope’s argument was that the punishment for fornication was much harsher for women than men although in most cases the latter were more to blame and their victims were given no opportunity of returning to decent lives no matter how repentant they may have been. The third subject to receive the benefit of the authors moral outrage is the hypocrisy and narrow vision of the landed gentry in the person of the Marquis of Trowbridge who treats his tenants as serfs and whose social code appears to be ‘might is right.’ The common sense of the pragmatic protagonist, Frank Fenwick, apparently very like Trollope himself, is a joy to hear."

She inherits a fortune and comes to Casterbridge to persuade Henchard to make ‘an honest woman’ of her. However, Susan, having lost her husband at sea, returns with the now grown Elizabeth Jane. The Mayor, wishing to atone for his crime of years before, remarries her. To complicate matters further a young ambitious Scot, Donald Farfrae, has settled in the town at Henchards instigation. Despite their rapidly worsening business relationship Donald initially casts a glad eye at Elizabeth Jane but then falls in love with Lucetta. What follows will destroy Henchard and cause all the main protagonists an immeasurable amount of emotional pain as betrayal, death and fate play their part in a tale full of suspense."

"Bennett described his story as an ‘Idyllic Diversion’. Helen Rathbone meets her elderly uncle, James Ollerenshaw, in Bursley Park, after an estrangement of several years. Both are very strong willed, independent characters. Helen has an extravagant lifestyle and likes to spend money while the old man has lived a thrifty life and intends to continue in the same way. However, they develop a friendship which progresses rapidly and Helen moves in to James’ house to look after him. A battle of wills begins in earnest. Each uses all the cunning and emotional blackmail they can muster to get their own way and both experience a transformation as romance comes knocking at the door. A wonderfully humorous and observant study of human nature and life in the Potteries at the turn of the century."

The Conclave of Shadows, the undercover organisation charged with the protection of Midkemia, have problems: the evil magician Leso Varen is still at large and thousands of portals to a parallel dimension inhabited by the cruel and fiendish Dasati, have been discovered in Novindus. Leso Varen, a powerful and malign magician with the power to possess and transport himself from body to body, and his Nighthawk assassins are plotting chaos and annihilation in the royal house of Kesh. The Nameless One is awakening and needs Varen to help him re-emerge completely and tip the balance of good and evil in the world, plunging Midkemia into darkness and ruin. But when the Conclave attempt to warn the Emperor, it becomes clear that many of the truebloods – nobles related by birth to the Emperor – are already Varen's slaves, both willing and unwitting, and the Conclave are forced into a race against time to save Great Kesh before evil engulfs the land. "Book three of The Riftwar Legacy The final instalment of Feist’s spellbinding Krondor adventure. Now in a brilliant new livery. ‘Feist writes fantasy of epic scope, fast-moving action and vivid imagination’ – Washington Post A drop in the ocean? A raid upon the high seas signals an attack of unprecedented magnitude by the forces of darkness. For the holiest of holies, the Tear of the Gods has been lost to the Temple of Ishap. After a raid planned by Bear, one of the most brutal pirates to sail the Bitter Sea, goes dramatically wrong, the colossal gems sink below the waves. So begins a story of the Tear of the Gods, the most powerful artifact known to the Temples of Midkemia. For it allows the temples to speak with their gods. Without it, they are lost for a decade, until another gem is formed in the distant mountains. Squire James, William, and Jazhara, new court magician, must seek out the location of this gem, with Brother Solon, a warrior priest of Ishap, and Kendaric, the sole member of the Wreckers’ Guild with the power to raise the ship. They are opposed by the minions of Sidi, servant of the Dark God, who seeks to possess the Tear for his own ends, or to destroy it, denying it to the forces of light. This third tale in The Riftwar Legacy is a breathless race for a priceless treasure. It’s a race against time, against the myriad sinister and competing evil forces desperate for the all-powerful prize, and ultimately against the fundamentals of nature, which in Midkemia can be as formidable as the Gods themselves"
