Space Piracy: Preparing for a Criminal Crisis in Orbit
Space Piracy is a forward-thinking resource that considers, analyzes, and provides solutions to the influence of the ignoble side of humanity in the realm of outer space, where potential for crime, corruption, piracy, and war increases as the exploitation of space as a commercial resource continues to develop. This book blends the authors' knowledge with that of subject matter experts to deliver a holistic understanding of criminality in space and help listeners broaden their horizons beyond their own area of specialization. Some of the topics explored in this insightful book include space hacking, from software, data, network, and hardware risks to existing cybersecurity standards and practices in space; criminal organizations that might pursue criminal activities in space, including cartels, kidnappers and devicenappers, and governments; and laws and treaties relevant to space crime, such as the Communications Satellite Act and the Outer Space Treaty of 1967. Filled with practical, thought-provoking knowledge and guidance, Space Piracy earns a well-deserved spot on the bookshelves of professionals working in the best of humanity's institutions, including law and intelligence services, finance, insurance and risk management, corporations, and the sciences, who seek to combat what the worst of us may be dreaming up.

The Next Supercontinent: Solving the Puzzle of a Future Pangea
You've heard of Pangea, the single landmass that broke apart some 175 million years ago to give us our current continents, but what about its predecessors, Rodinia or Columbia? These 'supercontinents' from Earth's past provide evidence that land repeatedly joins and separates. While scientists debate what that next supercontinent will look like-and what to name it-they all agree: one is coming. In this engaging work, geophysicist Ross Mitchell invites listeners to remote (and sometimes treacherous) lands for evidence of past supercontinents, delves into the phenomena that will birth the next, and presents the case for the future supercontinent of Amasia, defined by the merging of North America and Asia. Introducing listeners to plate tectonic theory through fieldwork adventures and accessible scientific descriptions, Mitchell considers flows deep in the Earth's mantle to explain Amasia's future formation and shows how this developing theory can illuminate other planetary mysteries. He then poses the inevitable question: how can humanity survive the intervening 200 million years necessary to see Amasia? An expert on the supercontinent cycle, Mitchell offers listeners a front-row seat to a slow-motion mystery and an ongoing scientific debate.

They thought the war was over . . . the enemy had other ideas. Two years after the end of the Psi War, Caleb Mitchell is Emperor in all but name, leading his armies on a crusade to cleanse the colony worlds and Earth itself of the last of the psionic madmen known as the Changed. But the citizens of the Commonwealth weren't the only ones devastated by the war; the criminal cartels in the Pirate Worlds are in chaos, their trade cut off, their resources running out. A young warlord named Amos Dobrev rises up to unite the cartels into a union they call the Syndicate. He builds an army of psionic supermen and tries to carve out his own kingdom among the former Commonwealth colonies. Dobrev says they are only doing what they have to do to survive. Mitchell considers Dobrev a threat who needs to be put down before he destroys everything that's left. And caught in the middle is Randall Munroe, Mitchell's right-hand man, trying to decide whether the bigger threat is an outlaw Syndicate . . . or the power of Cal Mitchell's Imperium.

Marc is all too aware that the end of the acclimatization year the System has provided to Earth is quickly drawing to a close and that others will be allowed onto the planet to start claiming areas shortly. Zeus has promised that his series of quests will get Marc, at least, to the maximum level reachable in that first year, but Marc is nervous that it isn't going to happen. With the transformation of his Safe Zone network into a Kingdom, Marc finds more responsibilities, Fortunately for him, even the help files on the Kingdom recommend delegating authority and, as a result, Sean finds himself with more work than ever. The transformation to a Kingdom also gives Marc some new options. Now he can convert dungeons he completes into Training Dungeons, designed to be more survivable, although giving fewer benefits in the process of completing them. He can also create Training Dungeons from dungeon cores that he has claimed, giving him lots of options to build a strong defensive force for the Kingdom. With a little bit of abuse of the System's rules, Marc's Kingdom makes it into the Space Age, allowing them to accept Zeus' final quest. A visit to a secret base on the moon gives them the final thing needed for Zeus and Hera to launch their attack on the System in their endeavor to replace it with their own 'kinder, gentler' version.
