Flying for Peanuts: Tough Deals, Steep Bargains, and Revolution in the Skies
Frank Lorenzo is the epitome of the American dream. A first-generation American and entrepreneur, Lorenzo started an airline advisory business in his mid-twenties and ultimately rose to control the largest fleet of airplanes in the free world. Flying for Peanuts explains how the son of Spanish immigrants put himself through Columbia College by driving a Coca-Cola truck and then grew the fledgling advisory into ownership of Texas International Airlines. From there, Lorenzo became CEO of Continental Airlines, a large loss-making west coast airline at the time. This airline business memoir gives a play-by-play of the high-stakes negotiations that got Lorenzo there, including faceoffs with Carl Icahn and a chapter devoted to selling the Eastern Airlines Shuttle to Donald Trump, soon to become the doomed Trump Shuttle. It details Lorenzo's competition with upstarts like Southwest Airlines and the clashes with unions that led Fortune's to name him one of 'America's toughest bosses,' along with accolades from his employees. Flying for Peanuts is for anyone interested in the American airline industry and anyone wanting to apply a trailblazing executive's lessons for their own career success.

Good Boys, Bad Hombres: The Racial Politics of Mentoring Latino Boys in Schools
Educational research has long documented the politics of punishment for boys and young men of color in schools-but what about the politics of empowerment and inclusion? In Good Boys, Bad Hombres, Michael V. Singh focuses on this aspect of youth control in schools, asking on whose terms a positive Latino manhood gets to be envisioned. Based on two years of ethnographic research in an urban school district in California, Good Boys, Bad Hombres examines Latino Male Success, a school-based mentorship program for Latino boys. Instead of attempting to shape these boys' lives through the threat of punishment, the program aims to provide an 'invitation to a respectable and productive masculinity' framed as being rooted in traditional Latinx signifiers of manhood. Singh argues, however, that the promotion of this aspirational form of Latino masculinity is rooted in neoliberal multiculturalism, heteropatriarchy, and anti-Blackness. Documenting the ways Latino men and boys resist the politics of neoliberal empowerment for new visions of justice, Singh works to deconstruct male empowerment, arguing that new narratives and practices-beyond patriarchal redemption-are necessary for a reimagining of Latino manhood in schools and beyond.

Daybreak at Chavez Ravine: Fernandomania and the Remaking of the Los Angeles Dodgers
Fernando Valenzuela was only twenty years old when Tom Lasorda chose him as the Dodgers' opening-day starting pitcher in 1981. Born in a remote Mexican town, the left-hander had moved to the US less than two years before. He became an instant icon and there hasn't been a player since who created as many Dodgers fans. After the Dodgers' move to Los Angeles in the 1950s, relations were badly strained between the organization and the Latin world. Mexican Americans had been evicted from their homes in Chavez Ravine, LA-some forcibly-for well below market value so the city could sell the land for a new stadium. For a generation of working-class Mexican Americans, the Dodgers became a source of great anguish. However, that bitterness toward the Dodgers vanished during the 1981 season when Valenzuela attracted the fan base the Dodgers had tried in vain to reach for years. El Toro, as he was called, captured the imagination of the baseball world. A hero in Mexico, a legend in LA, and a phenomenon throughout the US, Valenzuela did more to change that tense political environment than anyone in the history of baseball. A new fan base flooded Dodger Stadium and ballparks around the US whenever Valenzuela pitched in a phenomenon that quickly became known as Fernandomania, which continued throughout a Dodger career that included six straight All-Star game appearances.

When Thomas Aquinas addressed the best arguments against God in his masterwork, the Summa Theologica, he listed only two. The first was the problem of evil: How can God-who is perfectly good-exist alongside that which is against Him? His second: Is God needed to explain the world? Patrick Flynn presents the best arguments for God while also addressing the strongest objections. This book is destined to become the apologetic gold standard for defending classical theism against atheistic naturalism. Flynn identifies what is at stake and then provides cogent, accessible, yet potent defenses to counter those arguments that atheists routinely make to justify their claim that there is no God. Flynn defines commonly misconstrued terms and illustrates them with real-world examples. With sidebar definitions and detailed explanations, Flynn guides you in learning authentic reasons for your belief in God. He evaluates whether it's simpler to believe in God or not, and he provides numerous arguments from philosophy, science, and plain common sense. Flynn's in-depth analysis will give you the tools you need to share your belief in such a way that those who deny God's existence will have to defend their view. Also featured is an appendix with a dozen additional objections and bulletproof replies for the existence of God.

Key Changes: The Ten Times Technology Transformed the Music Industry
In recent years, narratives about the music industry tend to hew to a common theme: it was humming along for decades until the Internet and Napster came along and disrupted it. Key Changes shows that this view is incorrect: the industry was actually shaken up not once in the 1990s, but ten times over more than 100 years. These ten disruptions came with the introduction of new formats for enjoying recorded music: starting with the cylinders and discs played on early phonographs; then moving through radio, LPs, tapes, CDs, television, digital downloads, streaming, and streaming video; and then into Artificial Intelligence (AI), which enables a wide range of new capabilities with profound impacts upon the business. Each of the technological innovations covered in this book not only disrupted the music business, but also fundamentally altered the industry's character. Veteran music industry professionals and music technology experts Howie Singer and Bill Rosenblatt illuminate this pattern through a framework they term 'the 6 Cs': cutting edge technology, channels of distribution, creators, consumers, cash, copyright. Extensively researched and supplemented by interviews with Grammy-winning artists, producers, and executives, the book provides an insightful perspective on the ways technology has fundamentally altered the music industry.

A Day's Journey: Stories of Hope and Death-Defying Joy
How Do You Make Each Day of Your Brief Life Count? Tim Keesee spent years crisscrossing the globe, documenting the gospel's advance in regions of war and persecution through his writing and films. But double blows from terminal cancer diagnoses in 2019 and 2021 brought his travels to a halt. In A Day's Journey, Tim takes up his pen to write dispatches from a smaller, more intimate world. He writes of Christian brothers and sisters who have taught him so much about a day well spent: the way they work and worship, the way they pray and sing, the way they love their neighbors and their enemies, even when beaten black and blue for the sake of Christ. In this book you'll have the privilege to walk with Tim through days of pain and hard questions, but also days of grace, wonder, and death-defying joy. Poignant, inspiring, and beautifully written, these stories model the courage we need, the joy we have, the gospel we love, the cross we bear, and the hope we embrace until faith becomes sight.
