A Scent of Heaven is food for the soul lost in the dark night of the soul. This body of poems heals the wounds of the hopeless on every level-- many have found freedom in this text. Written as an ekphrastic text, the cover met Igwe with the telling of her story, and the stories of her people. These words are a radically honest approach to the altar of the soul, and the words invite you to join in this recounting of the body, mind and Spirit. Written by a living ancestor for other living ancestors--those who are wading the deep and dark at the bottom of the sea, here they found me a bit of me. This work is heavily influenced by Igwe's spiritual journey and her life existing between cultures: a quintessential, Nigerian brand of Christianity and her forays into the world of Odinani and ancestral veneration.

Wata Don Pass Garri is a body of work that is the talk-back to 2. It is one of Nkechi Ani's most honest bodies, detailing her feelings about magic, the family that stole her family, and the absolute reclamation of her power in sweet work, the pleasing of herself first. Nkechi Ani describes her experiences in the months following her fourth book, Biafra: God Answers. This book is a resurrection as it is included in a number of works that were stolen from Igwe's laptop. 'I wrote them again, and this time I'm sure you'll tell a friend' is Igwe's response to the theft of what appeared to be her empire. 'I got more skins heaux'. In this book you meet Ting, one of Igwe's many manifestations. She discusses her discontent with the concept of fatherhood in both mainstream and indigenous society, and offers very sharp rhymes for those she feels deserve her wrath, her divine anger (((FA))). This book is best used for darker altar work, and is coined 'The Ancestral Clapback' to the robbery of the millennium that never was ('cuz a bitch wrote it again'). Utilizing her signature (((A)))ndromedan light language as well as the Igbo language, she paints a picture of the vinegar she's giving 2.

Ugochukwu: Birds of Pray is a collection of poems that elucidate the journey of connecting with God through elements of nature, and the uncertainty that we experience when we are called to express faith in our path, even the parts of the path that we cannot see or prepare for. Moving prose written with the intent to stretch the English language and its punctuation for those who have grown weary of a language that limits expression. This book is a reminder that there are no rules in writing if you do not want them. Journey into the pages of this forbidden book.

Brought to you by Penguin. Impassioned, insightful, electric, Manorism is a poetic examination of the lives of Black British men and boys: propped up and hemmed in by contemporary masculinity, deepened by family, misrepresented in the media, and complicated by the riches, and the costs, of belonging and inheritance. It is also an exploration of the differences of impunity afforded to white and Black people, and to white and Black artists. Caravaggio - originally, unexpectedly - looms large: as a man who moved between spheres of exalted patronage and petty criminality; as a painter who, amid the elegant conventions of late Mannerism, forged his own style of visceral dark and light; and as an individual whose recognized genius was allowed to legitimate and excuse his violence. In this profound and moving debut, Yomi Sode asks: what does it mean to find oneself between worlds - to 'code-switch', adapting one's speech and manners to widely differing cultural contexts? Who is, and who isn't, allowed to be more than their origins? And what do we owe each other? What do we owe ourselves? The audiobook includes archival recordings with friends and family, and music by Nutty P. 'A wonder of a collection' Caleb Azumah Nelson 'Thrilling ... once-in-a-generation' Jackie Kay 'Genius ... tells a thousand stories in stunningly crafted verse' Nikita Gill 'Remarkable, textured ... Yomi Sode is a beautiful storyteller' Candice Carty-Williams 'Heartbreaking ... This debut is the living heart and soul of contemporary poetry' Pascale Petit 'Vivid, beautiful and deeply moving' Rt Hon Diane Abbott MP 'Yomi Sode writes with clarity, anger and love' Andrew Graham-Dixon 'Searing, shimmering, brilliant' Yrsa Daley-Ward 'A must for all lovers of poetry and its power' Roger Robinson 'Manorism is a classic' Caleb Femi ©2022 Yomi Sode (P)2022 Penguin Audio

Ghalib: A Wilderness at My Doorstep: A Wilderness at My Doorstep
Mirza Asadullah Khan Ghalib was born in Agra in the closing years of the eighteenth century. A precocious child, he began composing verses at an early age and gained recognition while he was still very young. He wrote in both Urdu and Persian and was also a great prose stylist. He was a careful, even strict, editor of his work who took to publishing long before his peers. His predilection for writing difficult, obscure poetry peppered with complex metaphors produced a unique commentarial tradition that did not extend beyond his work. Commentaries on his current Urdu divan have produced a field of critical writing that eventually lead to the crafting of a critical lens with which to view the classical ghazal. The nineteenth century was the height of European colonialism. British colonialism in India produced definitive changes in the ways literature was produced, circulated and consumed. Ghalib responded to the cultural challenge with a far-sightedness that was commendable. His imagination sought engagement with a wider community of readers. His deliberate switch to composing in Persian shows that he wanted his works to reach beyond political boundaries and linguistic barriers.Ghalib's poetic trajectory begins from Urdu, then moves to composing almost entirely in Persian and finally swings back to Urdu. It is nearly as complex as his poetry. However, his poetic output in Persian is far more than what he wrote in Urdu. More important is that he gave precedence to Persian over Urdu. Ghalib's voice presents us with a double bind, a linguistic paradox. Exploring his life, works and philosophy, this authoritative critical biography of Ghalib opens a window to many shades of India and the subcontinent's cultural and literary tradition.

Langston Hughes is a widely celebrated African American writer and important leader of the 1920s Harlem Renaissance. Deeply inspired by the great poet Walt Whitman, Hughes’ own writings gave voice to the Black community in the American literary canon. His assertion that “I, too, sing America” echoes through history and continues to be a battle cry in the fight for fair representation and equality. The Weary Blues, published in 1926, was Hughes’ first collection of poetry. He was only twenty-four years old at the time, but his insights carry wisdom beyond his years. Hughes made his literary debut at the height of Jim Crow when racial segregation ran deep through American society. Through the pain and hardship, there is also an unshakable pride in his African American heritage. Enjoy the rich notes and rhythms of Hughes’ distinct “jazz poetry” style, brought to life in this extraordinary InAudio production.
