I'm going to be totally honest. This is not the kind of audiobook that can help you. It's not a 'how-to,' a 'when-to,' or a 'what-to-expect.' It's not even endorsed by anyone remotely connected to the medical profession. (Although a cousin of mine who sells carpeting to doctors' offices not only found it 'insightful' and 'informative,' but felt that, 'if properly vacuumed, it should last a lifetime.') 'A fine endorsement,' you say. 'But if I have only one audiobook to buy, shouldn't I go for the helpful one?' Let's compare: Those 'know-it-all' books tell you how to have a happy, healthy pregnancy. My book mentions a squirrel. Those books tell you how to care for a newborn child. My book describes how tired I am. Those books give you essential information you can use in a life-threatening emergency. My book has some very amusing anecdotes about poop. So really, it's up to you. If you want to be prepared and well-informed, I understand. But if you enjoy hearing the words 'pterodactyl' and 'uterus' in the same book, you've come to the right place.

Bryson brings his unique brand of humour to travel writing as he shoulders his backpack, keeps a tight hold on his wallet and heads for Europe. Travelling with Stephen Katz--also his wonderful sidekick in A Walk in the Woods--he wanders from Hammerfest in the far north, to Istanbul on the cusp of Asia. As he makes his way round this incredibly varied continent, he retraces his travels as a student twenty years before with caustic hilarity.

Why Not Me?: The Inside Story Behind the Making and the Unmaking of the Franken Presidency
Updated with more on the real race in 2000! First came Theodore White's The Making of the President, 1960. Then All the President's Men. Now the searing chronicle that will forever change the way we view the man and the office... Why Not Me? ...chronicles the dramatic rise and dizzying fall of Al Franken, who would become the first Jewish president of the United States. Meet the president as a young man. Witness the Franken campaign in its infancy, as the candidate pledges "to walk the state of New Hampshire, diagonally and then from side to side." Go behind the scenes and meet Team Franken, the candidate's brain trust: including brother and deputy campaign manager Otto, a recovering sex addict and alcoholic, and campaign manager Norm Ornstein, the think-tank policy wonk who masterminds the single-issue (ATM fees) campaign. Cheer as Franken stuns the pundits by defeating Al Gore for the Democratic nomination, then is swept into office carrying all fifty states and the District of Columbia. Then, through excerpts from Bob Woodward's detailed account of the first hundred days, The Void, go inside the Franken White House, which is gripped by crisis from day one. After the highly medicated chief executive exhibits a roller coaster of bipolar behavior, Franken is forced to cooperate with the Joint Congressional Committee on the President's Mood Swings. And when the committee releases Franken's personal diaries to the public, his presidency faces its ultimate crisis. It began on a cold day in January, when Alan Stuart Franken took the oath of office and became the 44th President of the United States. It ended 144 tumultuous days later with the words: "Boy, am I sorry." Here for the first time in paperback is the searing chronicle of Al Franken's journey to the White House--the visionary campaign, the landslide victory, the hookers, the payoffs--told through confessions of key aides, Franken's own diaries, and excerpts from Bob Woodward's book on the first 100 days of the Franken Presidency, entitled The Void. Witness the campaign in its infancy, as Franken decides to run on a single-issue platform: lower ATM Fees. Follow along as Team Franken canvasses the nation, attacking Al Gore, attacking U.S. banks, attending a couple of prayer breakfasts. Then go inside the Franken White House where for 144 days a President virtually reinvents the office, boldly appointing the first all-Jewish cabinet, then battling a severe case of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. As scandal rocks the Administration, Why Not Me? becomes a tragic American morality tale: of a man who dared to believe that anyone could be president--and paid the price for proving he was right. -->

Just in time for the 2000 Olympics-the bestselling quthor of A Walk in the Woods takes listeners on a truly outrageous tour Down Under. Compared to his Australian excursions, Bill Bryson had it easy on the Appalachian Trail. Nonetheless, Bryson has on several occasions embarked on seemingly endless flights bound for a land where Little Debbies are scarce but insects are abundant (up to 220,000 species of them), not to mention crocodiles. Taking listeners on a rollicking ride far beyond packaged-tour routes, IN A SUNBURNED COUNTRY introduces a place where interesting things happen all the time. Leaving no Vegemite unsavored, listeners will accompany Bryson as he dodges jellyfish while learning to surf at Bondi Beach, discovers a fish that can climb trees, dehydrates in deserts where temperatures leap to 140 degrees F, and tells the true story of the rejected Danish architect who designed the Sydney Opera House.

As a child of the esteemed writer John Cheever, Benjamin Cheever grew up in a household filled with books. For 11 years, Benjamin worked as an editor. When he started writing, however, he found his literary voice in satire. Famous After Death is a darkly comic look at some of America's favorite obsessions. Noel Hammersmith, an overweight editor of diet books, yearns to be loved by beautiful women. If he can slim down, perhaps this will happen. If he were famous, it would help, too. As a bewildering series of bombs goes off in Noel's neighborhood, he is contacted by a visionary writer who calls himself Che Guevara. Through him, Noel sees a brilliant way to attain thinness and notoriety at the same time. Cheever sets up his brilliant satire with an editorial preface, where he introduces the novel as the authoritative text of The Compleat Wordsworth Bomber. By alternating Noel's journal entries, letters, and annotations added by unnamed editors, Cheever skillfully builds layers of humor into this tongue-in-cheek profile. An exclusive interview with Benjamin Cheever concludes the audio production.

This brilliant new Sci-Fi series charges into action at a headlong pace, deadly serious and wickedly satirical. Great performances from Claudia Christian (Babylon 5's 'Susan Ivanova'), as Detective Annie Manx, an honest cop in a system under siege, and Patricia Tallman (B5's 'Lyta Alexander') as the vicious Lieutenant Richmond. Annie and her boss are marked for death, as they stand between Richmond and a police takeover of the entire sector. But somehow, astoundingly -- when Annie gets killed, she doesn't die. Margaret Cho has a way of disarming her audience, dismantling preconceptions, and delivering punchlines that sting with wit and veracity. She derives much of her material from her upbringing as a second generation Korean American in San Francisco. Cho will keep you laughing from beginning to end of this audio, as she talks about everything from growing up in the City by the Bay ("Some people are raised by wolves - I was raised by drag queens"), to her sexual hang-ups (about which she's surprisingly candid), to passing a kidney stone (no one has ever described it quite like this!). For Adults Only: Explicit language. Must be 18 years of age to purchase.
