Auf der Beerdigung des jungen Oliver Herzog wendet sich die Mutter des Toten an Heinrich Tenbrink. Angeblich habe Oliver sich umgebracht, nachdem er seine Freundin Anna vom Dach einer alten Ziegelei gestoßen hat. Doch Olivers Mutter glaubt nicht an Selbstmord und bittet den pensionierten Kriminalrat um Hilfe. Eher widerwillig recherchiert Tenbrink im Umfeld der Ziegelei, die inzwischen von einer Künstlerkommune bewohnt wird, und stößt auf einen Jahre zurückliegenden mysteriösen Todesfall.
