"Hello there, this is The Family Doctor ...." So began the 1932 radio program The Family Doctor, a family drama starring Dr. Grant Adams as a kindly small town doctor who serves the citizens of Cedarton, a typical small town in an unnamed state, where you knew your neighbors and you could leave your doors unlocked. Adams is a pillar of the community, dispensing both medical advice and common sense wisdom to patients in need of both. Each episode is a combination of medical treatment and sage advice, not to mention drama. The Family Doctor had re-appearing characters and story arcs. With its roster of colorful characters, Cedarton feels three-dimensional. The Family Doctor was produced by Transco Syndication. There were a total of 39 fifteen minute episodes produced, and are included in this set. This doctor makes house calls.

One of the most successful periodicals in magazine history was True Detective Mysteries. An offshoot of publisher Bernarr Macfadden's True Story magazine, True Detective specialized in semi-fictionalizing real-life crime cases taken from police blotters and making them riveting reading, illustrated by posed photographs, newspaper morgue pix and police mug shots. The concept was a natural. Circulation soared into the millions. Before long, imitators followed in droves, leading to a new breed of entertainment that survives this day under the catchall phrase of "true crime" magazines. For our collection, we've selected eight exciting episodes dating from 1937. They range from murder mysteries to crime puzzles so baffling that in one instance, it took the vast resources of True Detective Mysteries magazine itself to crack a tough case!
