Sein erstes Geld verdient er mit dem Verkauf von Maulwurffellen auf dem Schweinemarkt. Da ist Erwin Kaeß zwölf Jahre alt und wünscht sich nichts sehnlicher, als kein Bauernjunge zu sein. Mit 17 geht dieser Wunsch in Erfüllung. Aus gesundheitlichen Gründen gibt seine Mutter den Hof auf, und Erwin macht eine Lehre zum Elektriker. Mit 25 ist er Meister, führt sein eigenes Elektrogeschäft, verdient gut und könnte zufrieden sein. Er ist es aber nicht, sondern sucht neue Herausforderungen. Jahre später hat er mit Grips, Fleiß und dem notwendigen Quäntchen Glück so viel Geld erwirtschaftet, dass er nicht mehr arbeiten müsste. Doch Müßiggang ist für den rastlosen Macher keine Option.
