Be Still, My Soul: Embracing God's Purpose and Provision in Suffering
When life becomes difficult—when we face deep disappointment, agonizing loss, or on-going pain—we set out on a search to find answers to significant questions: Why would God allow this to happen? What good could come out of this? What will it look like to trust him? In this collection of insightful essays and excerpts, classic and contemporary theologians and Bible teachers—ranging from John Calvin, Charles Spurgeon, and Dietrich Bonhoeffer to Tim Keller, John Piper, and D. A. Carson—explore Scripture in regard to the causes and purposes of suffering, as well as what it means to trust God in the midst of hardship and pain.

What the Bible Says About God's Purpose
Why are we here? What's the purpose of my life? Questions like these can blindside us almost any time-in a college philosophy class, during dark days of personal tragedy, in a discussion of the 'meaning of life' with a friend, or while watching news reports of human struggles worldwide. And we can quickly move from personal issues and feelings to the big picture and wonder about God's purpose in all of this. In reality, that's exactly where we need to start-the big picture, with God. When we learn his purposes for this world, we will see how we ought to fit into his plans. When we do that, we will find personal purpose, meaning for our lives. So we will begin at 'the beginning,' at Creation, in Genesis. In that book of beginnings, God has revealed his divine purposes for his creation. Then we will travel through Scripture. During this journey, we will see that God's purposes for the world in general quickly become very specific and personal. As you listen to the Bible passages and their attached devotionals, may you discover God's purpose for the world, and for you.

What the Bible Says About The Future
The future is the great unknown. While we may think we have a pretty good idea about what might happen in certain situations, such as when two sports teams play and one is heavily favored over the other, we can’t be sure—upsets occur—that’s why they play the game. Many future scenarios are much more serious, of course, and can produce nervousness, stress, or fear. We might wonder, for example, about world events that seem totally out of our control, including the economy, weather, and war. Or our concerns about helplessness could be much more personal: a biopsy report, a job interview, a promising relationship, a trip into a dangerous area. The Bible has much to say about the future and how we approach it. We know very little about what will happen next, and we certainly have virtually no control over future events—but God does. So consulting God’s Word on this topic makes a lot of sense. This CD will help you understand what the Bible says about the future and how to face it. The first truth we discover is that God is in control.

What the Bible Says About Positive Living
'Pie in the sky by and by,' is how many Christians are characterized. We are thought, in other words, to be so heavenly minded that we are no earthly good, to be naïve or simple-mindedly optimistic, unable to face reality. Those critics have a point, at least in highlighting that our sights are set beyond our earthly existence. We know that this life here is not all there is and that God is working out his good plans in us and through us. But they are wrong in assessing our grasp of the human condition: we are not detached and uninvolved with others' pain and hardships or with society's issues and conflicts. God has given us the assignment and responsibility to care and to love and to make a difference in the world. And we take his commands seriously. In fact, because we are affected by our own sins and the sins of others, because we live in a fallen world, and because we want to bring healing and hope to so many desperate people, we can, ourselves, become susceptible to the negativity that surrounds us. Our challenge is to take sin seriously and to face the real world but not be overwhelmed by it. To keep our positive focus while we get our hands dirty in the messy business of helping others.
