When a beloved aunt decides to help her college-bound niece with her college essay, she never expected to open doors to her own past. As her niece writes a highly autobiographical essay about her grandmother's murder, her aunt is shocked to learn the young girl remembers seeing her step-grandmother the night her grandmother was murdered.
Her aunt is mystified: not only is the murder - considered a burglary gone awry - still unsolved, at the time her stepfather had been dead a number of years.
