While riding their motorcycles along the Shore Road, Frank and Joe Hardy, along with their pal Chet Morton, meet a local fisherman who has just had his car stolen. The three boys give chase and, further down the road, find their chum, Jack Dodd, and his father being questioned by the police because a stolen car was found in their yard. The Hardy boys, of course, resolve to solve the case and clear their friend’s name, as many other auto thefts have also occurred recently. They soon discover a band of tramps camping on the beach, a man named Gus Montrose who used to work for Mr. Dodd, and a group of fishermen sneaking around the woods at night. Although threatened by Dodd, thwarted at every turn to unravel the mystery of the car thefts, and using their own money to purchase and hide in the trunk of a “bait car,” the boys enter the thieves’ lair, encounter their armed adversaries, and solve the Shore Road Mystery!

The Secret Of The Old Mill: A Hardy Boys Adventure
Law enforcement is basically a means of deciding on a fitting course of action in times of need. Much of the work involved means doing it under pressure and that is not always an acquired trait. Teenagers Joe and Frank Hardy had ample mental ability to reach conclusions and act accordingly. Some of that ability was handed down by their former police detective Fenton Hardy, and the overall concept was enhanced by their perceptive cleverness. If you want to be tense with excitement, here’s a chance. They discover a counterfeiting operation in an old mill, are trapped and face a struggle to escape. Eventually, they overcome the misdeeds and wind up with some of the phony money. Listen and hear how it all came to be.

This is the original 1927 story of The Secret of the Old Mill: The Hardy Boys Book 3. As such, it is different than later versions of this book with the same title. Frank and Joe Hardy, brothers who are high school students, help a stranger at the train station to exchange a five-dollar bill—only to find out later that it was counterfeit. Bayport seems to be flooded with counterfeit money, and people are on guard. But many innocent people, including Mrs. Hardy, lose money in seemingly reasonable transactions. The Secret Service and Mr. Hardy know something is happening around Bayport, but they cannot discover who or where. The Hardy Boys use their investigation skills and lots of courage in dangerous situations to discover the counterfeiting gang. Much has changed in America since 1927. The modern listener may be delighted with the warmth and innocence of the characters, but uncomfortable with the racial, social, and sexist terms and stereotypes. As such, this book is a part of our heritage, a window into our real past.

Brother detectives Frank and Joe go full-steam ahead to find the truth in the twenty-third book in the thrilling Hardy Boys Adventures series. The Hardys and some of their friends hop aboard an old train that's been restored and turned into a murder mystery experience. A cast of actors will perform an immersive theatrical production while passengers dine in style, assume roles in the game, and ultimately try their hand at solving the case. This should be a cakewalk for Joe and Frank! The production is a mess. The actors are lousy, fumbling their lines and spelling out obvious clues. At least the food is pretty good. But just as the Hardy Boys are trying to make the most of a disappointing situation, one of the cast members goes missing. At first, the audience thinks that the show is taking a turn for the better, but it quickly becomes clear that this is not part of the act. For the Hardys, the mystery has gone from good fun to deadly serious. And trapped on a train full of people who aren't who they say they are, everyone is a suspect. Will Frank and Joe be able to figure out how someone can vanish into thin air on a moving train before this case goes completely off the rails?
