Cinderella, or the Little Glass Slipper (Unabridged)
Cinderella, or the Little Glass Slipper by Charles Perrault - is a book adapted and illustrated by Marcia Brown. Released by Charles Scribner's Sons, the book is a retelling of the story of Cinderella as written by Charles Perrault, and was the recipient of the Caldecott Medal for illustration in 1955. The book takes place in France, in a palace similar to other Cinderella stories. Plot A widower marries a haughty woman with two daughters of her own. The woman and the two daughters hate the man's gentle and beautiful daughter, who they call Cinderella, and treat her cruelly. Cinderella is always assigned to do the chores around the house and forced to sleep in the attic. One day, it is announced that the prince will hold a royal ball and invites all the ladies of quality in the kingdom. Cinderella wants to attend, but her stepmother makes her stay home to clean the whole house. Cinderella cries as her stepsisters leave, but then is surprised by the appearance of her fairy godmother. After Cinderella explains her dilemma, her fairy godmother uses her magic power to help Cinderella. The fairy godmother transforms all the mice, lizards, and rats into horses and coachmen for a golden coach, and creates for Cinderella a gown made of gold and silver and slippers made of glass. The only thing her fairy godmother asks is for Cinderella to return home by midnight before the magic ends. Entering the ball, Cinderella is unrecognized by her stepsisters and dazzles everyone there, especially the prince. The prince pays her special attention because he has never seen her before. As Cinderella dances with the prince, she loses track of time. When the clock strikes midnight, Cinderella flees from the ball and the prince, accidentally leaving one of her glass slippers behind. The prince finds the glass slipper and vows to marry the girl whose foot it fits. As soon as Cinderella gets home, her gown turns back to rags, the horse and the coachmen turn back to animals, but the glass slipper remains as is.

Little Red Riding Hood (Unabridged)
Little Red Riding Hood by Charles Perrault - is a European fairy tale about a young girl and a sly wolf.[1] Its origins can be traced back to several pre-17th century European folk tales. Tale The story revolves around a girl called Little Red Riding Hood, after the red hooded cape that she wears. The girl walks through the woods to deliver food to her sickly grandmother (wine and cake depending on the translation). In the Grimms' version, her mother had ordered her to stay strictly on the path. A stalking wolf wants to eat the girl and the food in the basket. He asks her where she is going. She tells him. He suggests that she pick some flowers as a present for her grandmother, which she does. In the meantime, he goes to the grandmother's house and gains entry by pretending to be Riding Hood. He swallows the grandmother whole (in some stories, he locks her in the closet) and waits for the girl, disguised as the grandmother. When the girl arrives, she notices that her grandmother looks very strange. She says, 'What a deep voice you have!' ('The better to greet you with', responds the wolf), 'Goodness, what big eyes you have!' ('The better to see you with', responds the wolf), 'And what big hands you have!' ('The better to embrace you with', responds the wolf), and lastly, 'What a big mouth you have' ('The better to eat you with!', responds the wolf), at which point the wolf jumps out of the bed and eats her, too. Then he falls asleep. In Charles Perrault's version of the story (the first version to be published), the tale ends here. In later and better-known versions, the story continues. A woodcutter in the French version, or a hunter in the Brothers Grimm and traditional German versions, comes to the rescue with an axe, and cuts open the sleeping wolf. Little Red Riding Hood and her grandmother emerge shaken, but unharmed. Then they fill the wolf's body with heavy stones. The wolf awakens and attempts to flee, but the stones cause him to collapse and die. In the Grimms' version, the wolf leaves the house and tries to drink out of a well, but the stones in his stomach cause him to fall in and drown (similarly to the story of 'The Wolf and the Seven Little Kids').

The Master Cat or Puss in Boots (Unabridged)
The Master Cat or Puss in Boots by Charles Perrault - is a European fairy tale about an anthropomorphic cat who uses trickery and deceit to gain power, wealth, and the hand in marriage of a princess for his penniless and low-born master. The oldest written telling version is Costantino Fortunato (Italian for 'Lucky Costantino') by Italian author Giovanni Francesco Straparola, included in The Facetious Nights of Straparola (c. 1550-1553), in which the cat is a fairy in disguise who helps his owner, a poor boy named Costantino, to gain his princess by duping a king, a lord and many commoners. There is a version written by Girolamo Morlini, from whom Straparola used various tales in The Facetious Nights; another version was published in 1634 by Giambattista Basile with the title Cagliuso. The most popular version of the tale was written in French at the close of the seventeenth century by Charles Perrault (1628-1703), a retired civil servant and member of the Académie française. Puss in Boots appears in DreamWorks' Shrek franchise, appearing in all three sequels to the original film, as well as two spin-off films, Puss in Boots (2011) and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022), where he is voiced by Antonio Banderas. The character is signified in the logo of Japanese anime studio Toei Animation, and is also a popular pantomime in the UK. Analysis In folkloristics, Puss in Boots is classified as Aarne-Thompson-Uther ATU 545B, 'Puss in Boots', a subtype of ATU 545, 'The Cat as Helper'. Folklorists Joseph Jacobs and Stith Thompson point that the Perrault's tale is the possible source of the Cat Helper story in later European folkloric traditions. Similarly, Frisian professor Jurjen van der Kooi noted that variants from oral tradition were only starting to be recorded from the 19th century onwards, and tales from Central and Western Europe follow Perrault's and Grimm's redaction very closely.
