Winner of the Galaxy Crime Thriller of the Year 2009. A forty year old mystery all mixed up with family feuds, fraud and corruption this is the first of a trilogy. There is plenty to keep your interest hooked and the two main characters are original and engaging. In places it is quite violent and disturbing but this is a superb thriller that keeps you guessing until the end. It is just a shame that the author died shortly after turning in the three manuscripts for this trilogy and we will not have any more from this interesting author.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo : US film tie-in edition Synopsis
Tie-in edition to the major U.S. Columbia Pictures/Sony production starring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara, directed by David Fincher. The first volume in Stieg Larsson's phenomenal Millennium Trilogy, with combined sales of over 55 million worldwide. Forty years ago, Harriet Vanger disappeared from a family gathering on the island owned and inhabited by the powerful Vanger clan. Her body was never found, yet her uncle is convinced it was murder - and that the killer is a member of his own tightly knit but dysfunctional family. He employs disgraced financial journalist Mikael Blomkvist and the tattooed, truculent computer hacker Lisbeth Salander to investigate. When the pair link Harriet's disappearance to a number of grotesque murders from forty years ago, they begin to unravel a dark and appalling family history. But the Vangers are a secretive clan, and Blomkvist and Salander are about to find out just how far they are prepared to go to protect themselves.

About Stieg Larsson
Stieg Larsson, born in 1954, was a journalist. He was the Editor-in-Chief of the magazine Expo from 1999, and had previously worked at a major news agency for many years.
He was one of the world's leading experts on anti-democratic, right-wing extremist and Nazi organisations, and was often consulted on that account. He died suddenly and unexpectedly in November 2004, soon after delivering the manuscripts for three crime novels to his Swedish publisher. These novels make up the Millennium Trilogy, which has gone on to sell more that 3 million copies in Sweden alone. Tragically, Larsson did not live to see the worldwide phenomenon his work has become.
Maxim Jakubowski's view on LISBETH SALANDER...
Pierced, tattooed and garbed in extreme punk
attire, computer hacker Salander is the touching, vulnerable but
mightily determined heroine of the late Swedish author Stieg Larsson’s
acclaimed and best-selling MILLENNIUM series. The final book to be
published is THE GIRL WHO KICKED THE HORNET’S NEST. Not a heroine cut from the usual detective cloth but a truly memorable one.
